Victoria Hotel, hotel in Portknockie

Featuring a bar, Victoria Hotel is located in Portknockie in the Grampian region, 21 miles from Elgin Cathedral and 24 miles from Huntly Castle.

On my next strip to Scotland I would spend the majority of my time at The Victoria. Lorraine & David Boa go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The dinner was perfect and the breakfast was just what I needed. The pub in the back of the inn was just what I would looking for. The local residents gather there and are so friendly. Originally I was going to stay for one night but ended up staying for three and hated to have to leave.

The Old Coach House, hotel in Portknockie

Located in Buckie and within 16 miles of Elgin Cathedral, The Old Coach House has a shared lounge, non-smoking rooms, and free WiFi.

The hotel was absolutley filthy. 1. The staff were not the least bothered about the cleanliness of the hotel. 2. The carpets were ripped and stained. 3. The room was full of flies. 4. The room smelt very very stale. Ive stopped in more pleasant accomodation in rural India!!!!!!! I actually checked out within ten minutes and booked another hotel, I wouldnt let a rat stop in this hotel.

Lovely little village with other very similar ones all around. Great position for exploring the Moray coast and beyond. Plenty walks with glorious views. Highly recommended walking up to the top of the nearby "Bin" on a sunny day. Also for breakfast try the local "butteries" (morning rolls) warmed up with syrup on top. Yum!

    Absolutely stunning location!

Absolutely stunning location! I wouldn’t suggest it for a stag do or recommend it as a party destination, but if you enjoy nature, history, relaxation, walking etc it’s a must go! Gorgeous scenery, immaculate beaches (although not all easily accessible) and everything you could want to do or see or need is within walking distance, or a very short drive away. I was dubious about doing a 12 hour drive (each way) to holiday in Scotland in the autumn (we went end of sept) but the weather was perfect, not hot but not cold, bit blowy some days but ideal for exploring. So much to see and do I will definitely be back at some point for a longer stay to explore a bit further afield and 100% worth the drive. Sunny beach was to die for, and we almost did on the treacherous path down to this hidden gem, so many little places we discovered by accident, we saw dolphins and seals in the nearby village of Buckie, even the views from Tesco were amazing forest and hillsides.

A lovely picturesque village with amazing views.

A lovely picturesque village with amazing views. A chemist, small supermarket, fish and chip shop and Chinese carry out. Pretty harbour and stunning cliffs, especially the Bow Fiddle Rock. Great cliff walks from here, with easy paths. You can eat fish and chips on a bench overlooking the harbour or go to nearby Findochty or Cullen for a restaurant meal.

I think I should have planned what I was going to do before I got there. I could have visited the prison and distilleries but by the time I realized about these it was Christmas then lockdown which was nobodies fault of course. I had my dogs with me and the walks were amazing. We are fairly fit but there were walks by the harbour that would be fine for anyone. We discovered an amazing castle just about 4 miles from the house on the edge of a cliff. My partner and 2 teenage kids explored it and took photos. The beaches are lovely even with the winter weather.
