FAQs about hotels in Washington, D.C.

A World Icon

Featuring tons of national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booked through Booking.com.

We went to attend the ACC Men's basketball tournament, but we use the off time to explore places in Washington, D.C. that we had not visited before. We got lucky that the cherry blossoms popped open during the week and we got to experience the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin. Using the metro made life so much easier as I really don't like the ride-share option (had scary experience one time in ride-share). When I go back, I know that I will need to look at the map and plan as much as possible in one area each day, as I did walk MANY steps when I wasn't on the metro.

It was OK...the transit system was nice.

It was OK...the transit system was nice. The location of the hotel we stayed in was in a great location. We walk to a restaurant/wine bar. We had a real nice time. People were nice. Prices were a little high, however we were in a tourist area. Felt stay and surprise by the nice environment. Would visit again. I would not stay at the District Hotel again.

We like everything. The National Mall is amazing.

We like everything. The National Mall is amazing. I specially love The National Galleries with the Van Gogh and Monet gems. We ate at Jaleo and the food was amazing, the service was excellent. Getting around DC is a like crazy but manageable. Wpare rented a car and was able to find parking spots near the White House and The National Archives. It was our first time in DC and we loved it.

I live here. I have much to say! Mostly good!

I live here. I have much to say! Mostly good! Just keep aware of your surroundings at all times. If it looks suspicious it probably is I mean this is historic DC so just trust your sound judgment like you would in any major city that's just common sense! Tip good service! Treat everyone kindly and respectfully even the pan handlers you don't know their story and most are kind and overcoming circumstances that can affect anybody or addiction. DC has good programs unfortunately the waiting lists are long. Be patient and try not to critically judge the less fortunate. Every city is dealing with social epidemics we are not immune. No judgements here. Great historic sights monuments and countless museums! Something fun educational and profoundly life changing for everybody! Especially the Bible Museum! The Zoo is cool! The water front, river walk and more! Cheers!

My favorite place there was the Convention Center where my son was running a Hyrox race there. And I also absolutely love the place we went for breakfast called Unconditional Kitchen. Food was absolutely delicious. Also the waiter was phenomenal. Everything was within walking distance which was nice.

2 large adjoining rooms 2 bathrooms Old hotel but very comfortable in fantastic location. This is an old dusty hotel but plenty of clean towels. clean beds, Shampoo soap etc. Fantastic location so cheap to stay. We spend most of our time out of the hotel so suited us just find. Enjoyed Washington. Harry bar reminds me of diners of the 1980 good for quick drink and burger. Staff very helpful at Harrys bar.

    * clean, spacious rooms * big bathroom * mostly good location for walking. It's 20 minutes on foot to either of Washington Monument, Tidal Basin, White House or Capitol. But keep in mind - there are very similar hotels for the same price with much better location (near White House for example) * electric kettle in the room. That's a rare find and a pleasant find for those of us who prefer tea over coffee

Location right off the metro line, NoMa stop. Easy access to the hotel. Even coming from BWI. Only about 10-15 taxi or drive from DCA. Alot of different restaurants (cheap stuff like mcdonalds/wendys/dunkin donuts) to fancy stuff over at I5 community. Beds and pillows comfy. Good size of shower and water pressure. Bar inside hotel as well. Check in people super fast and efficient.

Very swanky hotel. Probably the nicest hotel I've stayed at before, though I usually cheap out. Patio restaurant is overpriced as is everything in D.C. Breakfast inside was a better value than the Patio (same price). Expect $100 meal for a family of 4. Walking distance to a lot of nice restaurants, though I have kids so that didn't happen.

2500 Penn is a well positioned hotel, in a calm area not far from the heart of Washington. Rooms are big (one bedroom and one living room with the possibility of a sofa-bed) and the staff is ready to help you. 24 hours check-in it's a plus for late arrivals at the airport, and the possibility of self check via mobile helps to save time

Nice place, great location. While rooms are on smaller size they are nice and clean and well set out. Not cheap but reflects the area/washington DC rather than the hotel in particular. Also staff practical and good vibe. The morning free flow coffee extra appreciated to help with jet lag/work balance.

The hotel is old, but clean and maintained. Fridges in the basement and the first floor allow for food storing. The location is off the center (bus services are unreliable, but cheap walking works too), but the area itself is really nice. Very good restaurants in the area.
