Lovely coastal town free of chain restaurants!! All the shops and restaurants seemed locally owned and unique to the area. We enjoyed lots of seafood like fresh lobster, clam chowder and lobster bisque. Be sure to walk the coastal path and take a harbor cruise! We loved flying Cape Air from Boston to Bar Harbor to see the coast and islands--just be sure to pick up your luggage in Boston and bring it to the Cape Air terminal! Restaurants we liked-- Geddy's, Ben & Bills Chocolate Emporium for ice cream/gelato/fudge, Stewman's, Bar Harbor Lobster Pound --they had outdoor games, too! Of course, don't miss Acadia National Park and Abel's Lobster right by the yacht yard--great outdoor ambiance!!

We enjoyed sunrises at Cadillac Mountain, crossing the bar at low tide, hiking the Beehive, the Bubbles, and Acadia Mountain, and walking on a small portion of the carriage roads.
Bar Harbor had great food, but it was tough to get into the restaurants. Our favorite was the Side Street Cafe.
We went in late October. Pros - lower crowds. Con - water activities and some restaurants were already closed for the season.

I can't wait to go back!
I can't wait to go back! Bar Harbor is a beautiful town that's extremely close to Acadia National Park. It's the perfect place to return to after a long hike. The locals are friendly and the food is delicious. The views are phenomenal.

We loved Gaylns restaurant, excellent food.
We loved Gaylns restaurant, excellent food. Whole belly clams were terrific at the Thirsty Whale. You can walk just about every where. The Sightseeing & Nature Cruise with Acadian Nature Cruises was worth taking.

absolutely gorgeous.
absolutely gorgeous. Loved the distance from the hotel to Acadia Nt'l Park, as well as, to the center of Bar Harbor. Love all the shops & exploring the different restaurants in town. We've been 1x before & the weather was perfect for getting great views @ the top of the mountains in Acadia. This time, we weren't so lucky - very foggy daily. But it was still just as beautiful. Highly recommend. the outdoor pool & hot tub are fantastic here after a long day of biking/hiking. The view of the ocean with the docked ships is quite beautiful. If you're lucky like we were, you may see Bald Eagles, deer or other wild life. :)

We had a different perception of what Bar Harbor was going...
We had a different perception of what Bar Harbor was going to be like. We also met a few people downtown at a restaurant's outdoor fireplace that had the same opinion.
We thought it was going to be a quaint town on the coast. It was very touristy with an abundance of t'shirt and souvenirs shops.
Our visit took place first week in October, lots of people. We found parking downtown, you just need some patience. The Chart House has a great happy hour on the pier out back, great cocktails $10 (not well, premium labels) and fresh oysters ($2ea)
Our recommendation would be to stay at a smaller town on the coast with access to Acadia National Park. The park has 40+ miles of bike trails, called carriage trails, and the drive up Cadillac Mountain is worth making a reservation on-line. Views from the top are beautiful
Absolutely loved the location - very central to Bar Harbor downtown. Additionally, the property, our room, and its decor were lovely. We were fascinated by how well Camalyne maintained the property and ensured her guests have a comfortable stay. Check-in was hassle-free - much simpler than hotel rooms in fact. The wifi worked well and the bed was super-comfortable. Our host also served us an excellent, sumptuous breakfast the next day. Overall - we highly recommend this place for your stay! I wish we booked another night.
We enjoyed our stay so much that we changed our plans in order to stay an extra night. The room was spacious, clean, and cheery. The beds were very comfortable. We had a balcony overlooking the off-street parking in an attractive courtyard setting. The hotel is off the main street in easy walking distance to everything. Very quiet. The morning blueberry muffins served beside the warm fire in the lobby compliment the friendly check in a out process. This was, by far, the best value on a busy weekend in Bar Harbor.
Although a few miles outside of downtown Bar Harbor, everything was easily accessible with a car. Cleanest place I've stayed in recently; the staff takes great pride in that. Very friendly staff, helpful, excellent knowledge of the area that they're happy to share. Comfortable beds, simple but attractive rooms. Excellent price for the area and the season. This is a real hidden gem that I would recommend to anyone. The only caveat is that it is a no-pet facility. But otherwise I give it a 110% rating!
Located 10 minutes away from downtown Bar Harbor, this is the best place to stay at for a cozy & coastal home-away-from-home. At the time of booking, we didn't know what to expect because it was a 'motel'. But as soon as we drove in, saw the cute 'welcome sign' and entered the room, Hanscoms exceeded our expectations by a mile! With a large king-sized bed, a fully equipped kitchen, a cozy coastal theme, and an open space for a community fire pit outside, you should stay here for your trip.
Wow, this hotel is lovely.
On the main street of Bar Harbor, but without the noise and traffic.
Parking was excellent right behind the hotel.
The room was a little strange in its location, but it afforded a lovely decking area and had all the amenities.
The location makes it easy to get into and out of town, while still only being a short walk from the main part of town and the waterfront.
Would definetly stay here again.
While this is a budget stay, we thought it was wonderful. Beautiful views of downtown Bar Harbor and within walking distance. Quick drive to Acadia National Park. Free coffee, delicious breakfast with a view, firepits, and great ambiance with the evening piano and drinks in The Great Room. They even had a heated pool but we didn’t get a chance to use it this trip. Also very pet friendly! My dog loved exploring the property.
It was a beautiful Victorian house with a lot of charm but recently updated. It was conveniently located in downtown Bar Harbor near shops and restaurants and the land bridge to Bar Island. The Saltair also had a beautiful lawn that overlooked its pristine private beach. Matt and Christy were gracious hosts and thought of everything. The breakfast there was the best breakfast I have ever had!
This motel was clean and an easy walk to everything. You are in the heart of down town Bar Harbor with a three minute walk to the water. The shops and places to eat were right there. Across the lane, next to the hotel was a small breakfast / lunch place, the coffee was good, the blueberry waffles were yummy and the service was friendly. I would return and recommend this hotel to others.
It is conveniently located just outside the Bar Harbor town center, in a quiet place, walking distance to the waterfront (to view and admire the landscape, no access to the beach). In-cottage amenities include small fridge, microwave, toaster and cups, plates, glasses and utensils. As well as 2-hot plates stove and coffee filter. Very clean little cottage.
Breakfast is included and was a nice surprise! The location of the motel is great! We walked downtown and around Bar Harbor while leaving our car at the motel. The room is newly updated and has a clean modern flair. The size is good as well for 2 people. We stayed in room with a king size bed.
The room was large and comfortable, with a great view. The restaurant serves breakfast only, which was very good. The hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location, close to Acadia and only a short walk into Bar Harbor. Enjoyed the hot tub and indoor pool.
The location was outstanding! Everything in Bar Harbor was walkable from our hotel, but we weren’t in the midst of the crowds. The room was spacious, and had a nice bath. We loved the welcome note and candy left in the room for us. The girl that checked us in was the most friendly!
Clean room, nice bed and plenty of pillows. Easy check in with a lock-box on the door and a physical key. The hotel is 1 mile from downtown Bar Harbor, and 1 mile from Acadia. Breakfast was great and had enough for 2 people plus extra to snack on after a good hike in Acadia.
The proximity of the hotel to Acadia National Park and to downtown Bar Harbor was excellent. The hotel had some fun extras like s'mores by the firepit and hot apple cider.
I liked that the tea and coffee was available all day.
The staff was very helpful and welcoming. There was free parking at the back of the inn. The inn was maybe a 5 minute walk to downtown Bar Harbor. The noise was as it is in any hotel.
