RainCoast Retreat at Shawnigan Lake!, hotel in Shawnigan Lake

RainCoast Retreat at Shawnigan Lake! offers accommodations in Shawnigan Lake, 17 miles from Maple Bay and 23 miles from Royal Roads University.

This is a perfect little spot to get away and relax. I highly recommend staying here if you need a comfortable quiet little get away. They had everything you need, just bring your clothes and food, and you're good to go. There's a cool washer/dryer combo unit which we didn't use, but it's a great idea for a small place. We were very impressed with the slim induction cooktop - it was a new thing to us and it worked amazingly well! And there's a nice little place to sit outside, which we didn't do, but that's only because we were busy sight seeing.

The hosts outdid what was expected.

The hosts outdid what was expected. They even helped us carry in luggage. The food provided was beyond my expectations. The property is divine, with alpacas and sheep in the pasture right outside our window. The only problem was that the hill to cycle up to their home was 2km. long and too much for us on regular bikes. We highly recommend a stay here.

I liked the friendly welcoming of Gabrielle.

I liked the friendly welcoming of Gabrielle. Her home is so lovely inside and out. We had everything we needed and Gabby’s number if we needed something else to call her right away! Her cottage is ten minutes from the food market, Coffee Bistro, Marina and restaurant.

The location has a bit of lots of things one can take part in with planning and, sometimes, a bit of travel. It is quite close to Victoria and and Nanaimo for "biggish" city enjoyment; and closer to smaller towns (Cowichin Bay for ocean, food, bakery; Duncan for services). Locally there is good hiking and cycling, wineries, cidery - plus nature and scenery.

We loved our stay here. Everything was beyond great. Large, cute and comfortable apartment, very generous breakfast, lovely setting and view and such a nice bonus with all the animals (especially the Alpacas that are very exotic to us). Nancy and Brad was the best hosts you can imagine, very friendly and helpful and they gave us great advice on what to do when staying there. (The trekking around Burnt bridge and Kinsol Trestle was just amazing!) This little B&B is one of our best hotel experiences ever, and we've traveled plenty.

Shawnigan Lake Suite B&B is a lovely location among the tall evergreens. It is easy to drive to and is clean an quiet. The hosts are kind and friendly. You must be up for a stair climb so if you have mobility issues this one is better for someone else. A lovely, fresh simple breakfast is provided each morning. All other meals are best best eaten at a local restaurant, these suggestions are listed, as there are no cooking or warming facilities here. I give this location full stars and highly recommend.

Our experience exceeded all possible expectations. We love visiting Vancouver Island but this time was so special particularly because we stayed at Shawnigan Hills! The suite is huge, well stocked and well-equipped with practically everything a guest might want. However, we got so much more than just a perfectly designed and maintained b&b. No hotel could be compared to the hospitality and care we received here. Our advice: plan to stay for more than 1 night, it is worth it!

The hospitality was exceptional! They were great with the kids and laid on food we weren't expecting. The animals at the property were a big hit with the kids and we all couldn't have felt more welcome. Very close to the lake and even though there are not a lot of food options nearby, we were all very impressed with everything we tried. Well worth the stay and excellent value for money. Would definitely stay there again!

Very large comfortable suite in lovely pastoral location; walkout basement level with separate entrance. We really enjoyed seeing the alpacas, sheep and chickens. Their eggs are delicious!! Very good kitchen facilities. B&B is near the local amenities in Shawnigan Lake and a short drive to Mill Bay, Cobble Hill and Duncan…lots to explore in the lovely Cowichan Valley !!

Breakfast was exceptional, more than we needed. The size of the space was palatial, and exceptionally quiet with views across the valley and onto nearby trees. The area was semi rural making for a particularly good getaway. Its going to be difficult to give 10 to any other stays from now on.

This chalet was a lovely place to stay, every possible need has been anticipated. We as a family have never explored the Shawnigan Lake area and it was a treat to come back to the house after a day of walks. I highly recommend this holiday home.
