Very unforgettable and authentic experience in the rural area near Kyoto. Beautifully and neat historic house and a pretty self-built tea room definitely worth a whole day to stay. You could have farming experience and wander around the big herbal garden. Before I go, I was given a plenty of organic farm products. The host couple was very welcoming and delightful even I am just a solo traveller with only basic Japanese. They truly made the trip unforgettable and meaningful. Definitely worth it!

Ima-ya is located near the rice fields where the owners grow rice. Beyond the rice fields is a forest in which there is a Fox temple which the owner Tutsuji took us to on a walk around in the afternoon.There were many birds who are encouraged by the rice farmers as they help keep pests away. This is a quiet place close to nature with good food and a traditional style of Japanese house. It was an authentic experience of Japanese rural life. The hosts Nom and Tatsuji are very friendly and accommodating.

Everything about this experience was magical including the monk and and his partner who were so lovely and welcoming. The food also was incredible wow.

Beautiful traditional house with a central hearth to sit around for chatting and meals. There was an outdoor bath as well! The hosts Akira and wife No-No are warm and open introducing to us their clean organic dishes of home grown rice, miso soup and pickles. The walking tour they brought us around are beyond our expectations. There was matcha tea with traditional Japanese sweets as well as a healthy Bento picnic in a garden! Ayabe is peaceful and scenic with lovely locals keen to welcome you😃

Amazing place!! Such friendly hosts, we loved talking to them and they made us feel comfortable. Clearly very polished and thought out in the layout and facilities - the rooms were all beautiful, comfortable and private, even fresh flowers and so many books to choose from.
