They provide a variety of information and recommendations and really try their best through the language barrier. Location was very close to a number of resorts (we also had a car). Breakfast was very filling and at a great price. The host also has access to discounted tickets for resorts in the area. We were very sad to leave.

After a long flight from New Zealand, we weren’t fully organised, but they helped us with everything, even offering us dinner and arranging a car a few days later so we could get around easily. They didn’t just host us; they genuinely became friends. The place itself is very traditional, full of authentic Japanese character, and the location is perfect, right next to the chairlift up to Suginohara. Service-wise, they were always checking in and making sure we were well looked after. 10/10 experience.

It definitely have rooms enough for more than 4 pax. The location is also great. It is within 10-25 minutes drive to ski resorts around Myoko. There are great restaurants nearby too. Myoko coffee is also just 4 min drive away for great coffee.

The accommodation had everything you could possibly need. We hired a 4wd from a local company (was dropped at the train station for us), which is a must especially in winter. Every morning staff cleared the snow from around our car and were super friendly.

Our objectives for the trip were (1) to learn more about Japan beyond Tokyo's business districts and (2) to do some skiing. Objective #2 was met: we had four very good days of skiing, in various conditions. As for objective #1, Komatsuya helped exceed our expectations: David (the owner) kindly drove us around wherever we needed to go, Izumi-san cooked wonderful Japanese food for breakfast and dinner, and Yukiko-san introduced us to the local attractions and helped us with the schedule and reservations. The room was clean and spacious and the onsen was an outstanding way to wrap up our skiing days. But beyond all this, we felt like we gained a new family in Japan. We will remember our stay at Komatsuya very fondly because of David and his team and, should we come back to ski in Japan again, I can't imagine staying anyplace else.
