The staff were really friendly and made us feel at home, the location was excellent and central, and the room was clean and comfortable. The snacks were a great touch after a long day of travel. We will definitely love to stay again in the future.

Well worth the effort to travel to experience a lovely ryokan, it's host and the town. I paid for dinner and I'm SO glad I did. It was a highlight of my stay and in deed a highlight of my 5 week trip in Japan. You sit in a sunken seating area and watch the ryokan owner/cook prepare what felt like a large number of individual dishes. The food was absolutely delicious. I was concerned about hearing other guests because, being an older house, the walls are thin - but the night I was there all the guests were respectfully quiet. I had a view over the "river" which may be a mis-nomer - but it is a peaceful stream running through the pretty street. I highly recommend a visit.

It was so lovely to get out of the touristy areas of Japan. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and gave us great recommendations for the area. We would highly recommend staying here!

Inase Otsu Machiya Bed and Breakfast, a property with a garden and a shared lounge, is situated in Otsu, 10 km from Daigo-ji Temple, 11 km from Shoren-in Temple, as well as 11 km from Samurai Kembu... Everything was great. We were 1 short because of sickness, but we had already payed and I didn’t even think about asking for money back. But the women who greeted us insisted and talked to bookings so we could get some of the money back for the room. Even do it was the same room we used. Very good breakfast, they held a fun and educating tea ceremony. The room was nice and comfortable. And when we used their washing machine they asked if they could fold our clothes and bring it to our room so we didn’t have to wait for the laundry to be done. We have only good things to say about Inase Otsu Machiya and the staff.
