Helping us out of a difficult situation and did way more than being a host! Location is super close to the airport, so perfect for an early flight to catch or a late flight to arrive. It is possible to organize a pick up with them which was very convenient!

Hosts were great, accessible and accommodating no matter what time of day - very responsive. Room was always clean and I felt safe staying there. They made me feel like family. Will definitely book here again next time I come to Costa Rica!

First of all: This place is not in Rio Segundo.
First of all: This place is not in Rio Segundo. It is in Alajuela in a neighborhood. The cab driver could not find it and had to call the property in order to determine it is not in Rio Segundo but in Alajuela. The entrance to the place was unattractive but the interior was fine. The money I saved by staying away from the airport was consumed by cab fares to and from SJO. I did not experience the breakfast as I left for an early morning flight at 4:30 am. The kitchen looked nice and clean. The staff was helpful in arranging a $:30 am cab ride and I appreciated that. Good WiFi connection and speeds.

For us La Rivera is a take off and arrival point, so the easy airport access is important. It is an easy walk to a phone store or Pali supermarket for some basics, and the local pista, church and park give you a safe introduction to Costa Rica. There is not much else to do in the immediate area.

I only stayed for 1 night needing to be at the airport the next day. The location is close to the airport, about a 10 minute drive. There are a few parks and plazas to visit and the area has almost everything you could need. I didn't find anything particularly interesting nearby but I wasn't there long.

We did more in San Antonio than we expected to do.
We did more in San Antonio than we expected to do. The church in the center of town was welcoming, and there are a lot of restaurants with good food and service. The bussing to other areas (San Jose and Heredia) is well marked and has an appropriate schedule. Plus, the area felt safe to walk after sunset. Because of its convivence, we extended our hotel stay to stay in the area, and only bussed to San Jose for the day.

We enjoyed our first stay so much at Hotel Robledal we booked two more nights at the end of our trip. It is a family owned hotel, so their attention to detail and helpfulness was excellent. Our trip fell on Costa Rica's labor day and I was impressed that so much of the staff had that time off while the brothers/owners pitched in to take their places. What they have created here (Hotel/business/restaurant, etc) is something special and I hope they continue in their success!!! As for Alajuela itself, we only experienced a few businesses (Family Carwash for one was EXCELLENT) it seemed to be a pleasant, vibrant, area full of hard working families and plenty of courtesy! Airport shuttle was waiting when we arrived and the driver was really friendly and knowledgeable. We only stayed one night as our flight had been delayed and we had to book in SJO last minute. We were looking for something convenient and comfortable and it met those requirements perfectly. There are food trucks and a supermarket and pharmacy outside as well as a nice restaurant in the hotel itself. We used the gym which was clean and well maintained. Staff were friendly and helpful.
