On the beautiful seafront of St Mary’s island, The Atlantic offers bright, individually decorated rooms and fresh, seasonal food. What a lovely place to stay! Great location, fabulous view (we had room 21, which I recommend), very comfortable, excellent breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. We would love to return and will certainly recommended the Atlantic to friends and family. Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable!
With stunning sea views, Tregarthen's Hotel on St Mary’s provides high-quality accommodation in the Isles of Scilly. The hotel has a very comfortable lounge/bar area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room had a sea view and was comfortable. The food was excellent; we went for half board and the evening meals were delicious. The hotel is well placed in Hugh Town.
Located on St Mary's, the largest island in the Isles of Scilly archipelago, Star Castle Hotel is just a short 5-minute walk from Hugh Town. We have loved our stay here. The staff, without exception are excellent. They have clearly been very well trained and provide a very professional and thoughtful service, throughout the hotel. Our room was spotless and extremely spacious and comfortable. We stayed in a garden room with a terrace, well worth the higher price bracket. Everything you could want was available through reception. Breakfasts are excellent. The best eggs florentine I have ever eaten - and I am a connoisseur! We ate in the conservatory dining room on one night. This is a very special treat, with a largely fish based menu and some really interesting veggies to accompany the fish dishes. Again the waiting staff were exemplary. The location is truly wonderful, with far reaching views across the islands. The hotel has plenty of outside space for guests to enjoy secluded sitting out areas, dotted around the spacious garden or on the castle ramparts. And all with the extra excitement of staying in an ancient castle!

Hugh town is a very welcoming place. It's like stepping back in time, its quiet and peaceful and very few cars. The beaches are amazing with golden white sand and crystal clear water. There is plenty of eating places.
Busy harbour is interesting to watch. Lots of 'park benches' and plenty of space for everyone to stroll and sit to enjoy the views. Several different harbours or bays within an easy stroll. No public transport is needed if you like to do some coastal saunters, lots of birds to hear and watch and masses of wild flowers (at Easter when we were there). We took the opportunity to go for a day to St Martin's with a wildlife expert (Will Wagstaff) whose pleasant manner and knowledge made for a super day. We also visited the famous island of Tresco including the Abbey Gardens but also walked on the coastal path of North Tresco and we went on a boat trip to the island of Bryher which was also delightful. Very tranquil everywhere. Boat trips very well organised.
Hugh Town is quite an unusual place. The harbour is an integral part of the town, which gives a different feel to the surroundings. We found the people to be amusing and very friendly. In fact delightful. I would strongly recommend that you book in advance your evening meal as this can be difficult to arrange.
A lot to see and discover. The town is clean and full of beautiful plants and stone houses. You can't miss your way, walking routes and paths everywhere. If you like historical buildings and sites and you are a nature lover, you will enjoy the city. Kavorna Cafe & Take Away has nice menu for a reasonable price, the staff is friendly. Bishop & Wolf has a very friendly staff, nice food and affordable prices. Only one negative thing we experienced almost every shop and sometimes tainted our mood a little bit; the sales persons, except a very few ones, were very unfriendly. Avoiding eye contact, poker face or a slight disdain, fake smiles, when you feel they want you to get out. So they were not welcoming at all. I understand they sick and tired from tourist and I don't have high expectations but a little bit better attitude would be nice.
Hugh Town is the hub of the islands and always a pleasure to return to in the late afternoon after the peace and tranquillity of the off islands. We ate in St Mary's Hall, the Atlantic, the Mermaid, and Juliette's Garden. Walking, cycling, snorkelling, kayaking are on offer, and there are several good clothes shops.
St Mary's lovely place to stay. Some even good walks and several nice quiet beaches. Hugh town very quaint and slow pace of life. Some good pubs and places to eat with great views. Many boat trips available to the other islands. Julietts garden is a must for lunch and also evening meal as it has fantastic views.
