Although only there for a short while Bunbeg has all the ingredients of the mystic west. The sunset was spectacular over the beach. Bád Eddie (Eddies boat) on Bunbeg's Magheraclogher beach, in Gaoth Dobhair (Gweedore) is a must see. The official story is that the boat was stranded on the beach but we heard from a good source that Eddie did it deliberately. He beached the boat in order to fit a new engine but he was going through a divorce and his wife asked for her share of the boat so he never repaired it.
The hotel itself was very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly which made it easier to relax and enjoy. Annagry and surrounds are in the heart of Irish speaking Donegal with a variety of bars and restaurants.
This family run hotel is a hidden gem for anyone who likes to feel at home straight away. The relaxed atmosphere in the place and the very friendly owner Pauline and her staff made our stay there very special. Would definitely go back when covid restrictions are lifted so that we could get to meet all the locals
This is a great, quiet friendly countryside village (Pub, restaurant, pizza place petrol station around the corner). The next town is a 14-minute drive with all the amenities you need. (Lidl, Aldi, Supervalu, etc.)
Kincasslagh is a tiny hamlet north of Dungloe. The walk to Kincasslagh Pier is relaxing and lovely. It's a nice place to stay and get away from it all, but I'd recommend having a car, as bus service is limited, and local services are minimal (one small market, and pub that's often closed).
Beautiful, little picture postcard town in the unspoiled countryside that forms part of The Wild Atlantic Way with the friendliest people in Ireland. The little airport nearby, made it easily accessible to me. Looks like a sleepy little town but open the door into the local, Sharkey's bar, and find yourself thrilling with the locals' lively celebration of life. There are countless eateries, including a Michelin Star restaurant, so I was spoilt for choice. I usually opted for bars which have delicious, and varied quality dishes; no basic pub grub here! These are mainly family run from generations back, as the old sepia photographs on the wall will attest. Excellent couple of hotels serving the tastiest, locally sourced foods from local suppliers. The bacon and sausages at the hotel Ciaishlien Óire are the best I've tasted. I enjoyed tranquil peace in Annagry. This, to me, is true Ireland. There's no litter or graffiti, nor the lazy stereotype of drunken brawls. There's just a hundred thousand welcomes and a heartfelt, don't be a stranger, come back again soon.
