The beaches are GORGEOUS.
The beaches are GORGEOUS. I made a full trip around the perimeter over the course of my stay, and each side of the island has a different feel. I would recommend visiting at least 2 different sides when you visit. Yurigahana and the beaches on the east side are pretty, but I personally liked the beaches on the north, such as Terasaki Beach. The locals are friendly and welcoming, and restaurant owners all were happy to chat. I made friends with the owner of 蒼い珊瑚礁, a soba noodle restaurant and gift shop, who took me to the historic burial grounds to make an offering to the old bones there. I had a drink of sake with the dead and helped collect some bones into a neat pile.Guest review byKelleyUnited States
