Whoever bought and fixed up this motel did an incredible job. There was so much attention to detail, very clean, very cute modern (60’s style) appliances, with a neat wooden patio including a barrel sauna, hot tub, and fire place. Exceptional.

Houghton Lake is a wonderful "Up North" destination!
Houghton Lake is a wonderful "Up North" destination! Fabulous warm
and shallow lake, great for boating, swimming, fishing, or just to sit and look at. The main road M55 has just been repaved and marked. Quaint shops like The Rocking Chair Gifts (great fudge), Morning Glory Mercantile, Under the Windmill, & Arnies make shopping fun! Great food at the following restaurants: Powell's, Shakers, Lakeside Bar and Grill, Buccellis Pizza, Garretts, Randy;s. The Pines Theatre is the MOST unique theatre I've ever been to. Lots of golf! They hold a great Arts and Craft show over all 3 summer holiday weekends. This is "My Happy Place"!

For great food and service try: Powell Family Restaurant, Bucellis Pizza, Shakers, Little Boots Diner, Lakeside Bar and Grill. Rocking Chair Gift shop is a must for the fudge and souveneirs, Pines Theatre is worth the visit just to see the inside. Sno Queen for ice cream. Lots of cute shops. They recently repaved and remarked the whole strip of M55 through Houghton Lake area and so the driving is nice. The lake is beautiful, the water is comfortable to swim and play in with sandy beaches. This is a wonderful place for a family vacation!

We fished three area lakes; Houghton Lake, Higgins Lake, and St. Helen Lake. We ordered Bucilli's Pizza, shopped at Walmart. and Harbor Freight. We also took a scenic drive around Houghton Lake on Route 300. We saw a lot of wildlife and took pictures of sunsets. Houghton Lake is a very sleepy town during the week and picks up in activity on the weekends. We arrived on a Monday and fished for four days, leaving on Friday morning.
