Busy city that has a different personality during the day than at night. The city was being configured for a formula 1 Grand Prix race (F1GP), so the water feature at the Bellagio was not visible from the street (race set for 20-22 Nov 25). A number of homeless wandered the streets or were sleeping in noticeable places yet one did not feel unsafe. During the night hours, tacky, scantily-clad “showgirls” walked around in twos, many with only pasties over their nipples. If you do not want your children to be in this type of company, be forewarned!
We visited Las Vegas to visit the Drag Racing at the Las Vegas speedway and The Strat was a short distance from the track. We also visited the Sphere to see The Wizard of OZ which was an exceptional experience thoroughly recommend this
Treasure Island was perfect for us, not too big, good restaurants and Cirque de Soleil was right there for our enjoyment. Vegas was great, TI is within easy walking distance of many of the major events, such as the High Roller and the Sphere. If any thing was too far away, taxis and Lyft are priced quite reasonably and easy to get.
I am not a gambler, so did not go for that. Driving in the city is like being in a maze. The disparity of wealth is so obvious here. Lots of people living on the streets, drug & alcohol abuse mixed in with shiny hotels & lavish lifestyles. Sad.
Fabulous place to walk around for a few days. We saw a show and also did a Sunset Helicopter trip over grand canyon and the strip, which although expensive, has to be done if you are going to Las Vegas.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Alexis Restaurant at the Paris Hotel & Casino for Thanksgiving Dinner -- 3 course meal for $65/person. The view (although obstructed by the Formula 1 Racing temporary setup) in front of Bellagio Waterfountains was very pleasant to be across the street enjoying the sites and sounds of the Las Vegas Strip. The music and ambiance at Alexis' was just right. Walking the strip is neat, there are some things you notice like, "street performers who bring their children out late at night and are not very well looked after." One man had his son with him on the sidewalk, but the child was tired and so his face was on the ground as he hardly played with a toy truck which was very inappropriate while he sang to audiences for money. Luckily, a woman and a man bought the young child some food and assisted him off the ground to the side and fed him while the man just kept singing like nothing was odd. I was glad someone found that odd because as a mother I wanted to do something for the child too -- I found that awkward and sad, but I suppose not entirely bad. There are many homeless just outside the strip, people living in the gutters, with cats and dogs, women actually who we gave food too on Thanksgiving evening as we walked back to our hotel. It's an interesting city but off the strip there are many poverty stricken sights that you will notice if you open your eyes. Its hard to enjoy luxury (for me) when you know there are people living so poorly just steps away from the glitz and glam. With all the money LV brings in you would think the surrounding areas of the strip would be better enhanced with shelters or support for the poor. Women living in sewage tunnels (literally) just behind Caesars Palace -- not a good look.
