We were close to Bayside Market Place which was a central hub for transportation (buses/river cruises), souvenir shopping, clothes shopping and numerous places to eat/drink. We particularly enjoyed Bubba Gump's restaurant and found it very affordable. To get to Miami beach you have to travel over a bridge and the only free transport is the hop on/off bus. Otherwise it is a taxi fare. Staying in downtown Miami suited us better for getting around. The Metromover is a small FREE automatic train which runs in 3 different loops and connects to the Metrorail (payable) system which takes you further afield, and goes directly to Miami Airport for a fraction of the price of a taxi fare.
Lots of fun in Miami Beach and area! Good mix of ages and ethnicities. Great food in little restaurants and cafeterias on Washington St such as Pizza Rustica (GF pizza options) and great smoothies and meats (which you can buy on their own or in meals with rice, beans, etc, also gluten free) at Dulce Cafeteria. Lots of fancier restaurants, clubs and shops on Ocean Dr. Transportation is great — there are free local loop busses, and reasonably priced busses for longer transportation that link to other cities and airports such as Fort Lauderdale and the Sunny Isles Beach (Haulover Parks and Beaches). It is a clean and safe city, and had a good police presence in the busiest areas at night. If the opportunity arises, I would go back.
The description should clearly indicate the hotel does not have parking available and how to go about talking to someone on site who could answer specific questions. We could never confirm late check-in or parking with them although we contacted the hotel several weeks and days ahead of our trip.
If you love a tourist trap, then you'll be at home here in South Beach, if you like high-priced food and drinks, then you'll absolutely love it here... However, you can get some absolutely fantastic deals in the many tee-shirt stores donning the MIAMI logo types. It was worth seeing what the fuss was about, such as the hotel where Al Pacino had a shoot-out in Scarface and the Versace hotel.
Miami is wild. A great place to visit. We could have stayed longer but we intended to go north so only stayed a couple of nights. Yes it's easy to get around Miami but the traffic is bonkers. Moving all the tme but slow. Great for looking at the hotels from the car window.
The Rivière is located around the corner from restaurant row (Espanola Way). It’s on the main avenue and it’s easy to walk around South Beach. Miami and South Beach have a distinctly Latino vibe, unlike Ft Lauderdale. Lots of nightlife, but strangely you cannot buy beer at a store after 8 pm due to local ordinance. You must go to a bar or restaurant for alcoholic beverages (of which there are many). We taxied from Miami airport and paid $50 plus tip. However, we were leaving for the airport early in the morning, so we booked a car on the Uber app and it was only $25 plus tip for the same distance.
