Location and Transport

Oakland International Airport is located 9 miles (15 kilometres) south of downtown Oakland, CA. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train service provides an easy connection between the airport and Coliseum Station, departing every five minutes from 08:00 to 20:00, with a journey time of eight minutes. Alternatively, a taxi will cost around USD 35–45, reaching downtown in 20 minutes.

We have lived there, so we know the ins and outs of this...

We have lived there, so we know the ins and outs of this town. Be patient with traffic and bicycles and pedestrians. Expect somewhat higher prices as everything needs to brought in from somewhere else. There is no better place to have a family as the island is incredibly family oriented.

A cheat sheet with local places to eat would have been nice. For those of Us that are not familiar with the area it could be a little overwhelming. So a little knowledge goes a long way. It could helpi us feel more comfortable and safe. Unfortunately Per Appearances the surrounding area can feel a little rough, However at the hotel everything felt safe.

The food was great, I ate at Home of the Chicken and Waffle...

The food was great, I ate at Home of the Chicken and Waffle 247 4th street. I also ate at The Melt, my vanilla shake was very good. I visited the African American museum and library. I enjoyed the that very much and all the history. That’s it tho, I didn’t like the freeway on ramps. Someone broke into my rental car while I was in The Melt eating and smashed the back window. I was lucky nothing was stolen. If you are going to Oakland get the extra insurance thru the rental company.

The front desk staff were great. The bed was lousy.

The front desk staff were great. The bed was lousy. The mattress was lumpy and uneven and uncomfortable. Also, the fitness room was not accessible as it was being remodeled apparently. I was never told that when I booked the room.

Location was great -- many shops and restaurants nearby. We liked the layout of the room -- two queen beds with a small sitting area. Bathroom was clean and functional but a little small. Parking was a little expensive for not being "downtown" -- $40/night to park at the hotel and $25 at the nearby garage.

This was a temporary state because of moving out of apartments. The apartment was being renovated We were in the middle of a move of a move out.. we appreciate the fact that breakfast was served also..

Alameda is a small town with all the amenities.

Alameda is a small town with all the amenities. Plenty of restaurant choices and places to see. The architectural stylings of the homes there are one of my favorite things to drive around and see. The weather is great.

I got a chance to spend time with my youngest son.

I got a chance to spend time with my youngest son. I'm gluten free and we were able to find a wonderful hole in the wall cafe called Aburaya, 362 17th street in downtown Oakland. They have the best Gluten free fried chicken I have ever tasted. Unfortunately the streets in downtown Oakland have litter eveywhere. I stayed in a nice quirky boutique hotel on 12th St. called Oaktown Roost, which was very comfortable but I had to pay $40 a night to park across the street in a locked parking lot.

Castro Valley is a good place to base any trip to the Bay area. We were visiting family that live in Alameda and Castro Valley was only 25 minutes away (on a weekend) and had lots of restaurants to chose from.

Our stay was perfect. Staff was the perfection of customer service. Location was close to all of our needs. Great shopping options and restaurants to select from. Dinner at Mumus across the street. Used BART to get into SF. Great experience

It was very close to the OAK airport, which is why we choose to stay there. There is a shuttle to the airport beginning at 4am. Breakfast was included in our booking, however we had to leave for our flight before breakfast opened at 6am.

Surprisingly clean for an economic airport hotel in that location. We were pleasantly surprised and decided to stay there on our flight out as well. Will for sure stay there for airport overnights whenever we fly through OAK again.
