Convenient location and very accommodating staff. (We had a very early flight the next morning and were going to miss the included breakfast...the staff provided us bananas the night before so we would have something to eat in the morning).

Lots going on in Portland - we took a walk into town, ate a great dinner, enjoyed a comedy show, and took a long walk by the water the next day. Lots of energy about the town. Not easy to park, though.

As someone from the county going to Portland was fun.
As someone from the county going to Portland was fun. Lots more to do than were used to, Dunkin close by, tons of stores for shopping. The mall was great, build a bear was a huge hit so was funtown splashtown and the huge arcade In the mall. The pier in old orchard is also a huge hit. You can find restaurants on the ocean and eat your lobster outside with a beautiful view.

The Town/City of Westbrook was fine. Typical small Maine town. Shocking actually to find that the prices of Lobster have increased so much there regionally. When I was stationed in Maine in the Navy, the prices reflected the fact that it was one of the largest Seaports in North America.

If you are wanting to spend all your time in Portland, I'd rethink this. There isn't much in the way of eating (except at the hotel), so you have to plan accordingly. however, if you want a view and not stay in the city, then it is a great pick. It's about 20 minutes by car to Old Port.

This is a gorgeous and rustic lodging right on the ocean and so relaxing!
Hearing the surf at night was amazing. It is a great family destination because there is a full set up for family cooking and being on an island means it is hard to lose the kids. It is set up dorm style so there is a shared men's and women's bathroom with multiple beds in every room. I would not want to fill the room with maximum number of people just to minimize the noise level but it could be done. There is a wonderful "great room" which is a large open space with a circle of chairs around the fireplace as well as kitchen/dining room on the lowest level.
There were some good restaurants on the island as well as a pretty complete grocery store.
We are going to plan a family vacation there for next year to spend a whole week.

A good mix of old and new
Loved the port area and enjoyed the mail run cruise around the islands , the trolley bus tour and the PMA.

This would be great in the summer as Rock Row is within walking distance but there are limited sidewalks from the Super 8 Motel. This is a heavy traffic area during rush hour.
Westbrook is an average small city.

We arrived at the hotel late at night. Parking was convenient, and the front desk staff was helpful, though not particularly friendly at check-in. I appreciated the cleanliness of the hotel, but it was frustrating that our two rooms—booked under the same reservation—ended up on different floors.
Initially, we were given keys to two rooms next to each other on the same floor. However, one of the room keys didn’t work, so we had to return to the front desk. That’s when we were told that the second room was actually on a different floor. This meant hauling all our belongings back to the elevator and starting over, which was inconvenient after a long day of travel.
The bathroom design in the room was also a bit uncomfortable—the sliding frosted glass door didn’t fully close, leaving gaps on the sides that compromised privacy.
We only stayed for one night and left early in the morning. During check-out, the front desk staff was much friendlier and took the time to ask how our stay was, which we appreciated.

I went walking in the downtown and historic district, ate lobster rolls twice, and went on a 90 min, beautiful ferry ride around the surrounding islands.
If I had more time, I would have gone to the lighthouses, beaches, explored additional islands and more. I think 3-4 days in Portland would be ideal.
People should be prepared for areas with a large homeless population. I was surprised (and apparently this is year-round, even more surprising). I was not bothered because I live an urban area mysefl
