On this tour, you’ll visit one of the largest labour camps of the Nazi regime. A three-hour ride from Vienna, Mauthausen camp had nearly a hundred subcamps. Between 1938 and 1945, the camp had more than 200,000 people working in its quarries, munitions factories, mines, arms factories and aircraft-assembling units.
During the journey, your English-speaking guide will provide some background information about the site. Upon arrival, you’ll take a tour of the memorial site and see what’s left of the camp.
During the tour, you’ll have the chance to visit the Wiener-Graben quarry, the Stairs of Death, the SS-Quarters, the Camp Prison, the Gas Chamber and the Mauthausen Museum. Recorded commentary available in 11 languages will be at your disposal to give you some context about everything you see.
Before heading back to Vienna, there will be a stop at a local restaurant for lunch.
