Karnak Temple was built 1300 years ago and is the largest Pharaonic monument in the country after the pyramids. It represents the achievement of many generations of ancient builders. The road to the temple was laid alongside a canal once connected to the Nile. Lining the road used to be an amazing row of sphinxes having the head of a ram and the body of a lion, symbolic the God Amon. This used to go all the way down to the Luxor Temple. You can still see some of these Sphinxes lining the road.
