The Cannaregio sestiere (district) in Venice is characterized by a lot of authenticity and history, but it is often ignored by tourists. You will be surprised by its beauty and the peace and quiet.During our walk we will reach

the Jewish community of Venice .ghetto the most ancient ghetto in the world.

the word ghetto. Invented by the Venetian Jews, it was originally a simple toponym: ghetto is nothing but the hardening of the Ashkenazi pronunciation, that is of the German Jews who first arrived in this place, of the term geto, which indicated a foundry (place where the molten metal is thrown)

In the years before 1516 many other Jews had sought protection in the city, escaping from the hinterland due to the wars. Soon the Ghetto assumed international notoriety and, after the Germans, began to welcome Jews from the most disparate points of the diaspora, Spain and Portugal, Italians, Marranos. Within a few meters there were five synagogues.
