Miyajima
Only a 5-minute drive from Miyajima Ferry Port with its free shuttle, beautiful ocean views can be enjoyed from Miyajima Seaside Hotel. This was easily one of the best - if not the best - hotel experience I have ever had in my life! The staff was super friendly, took care of our baggage while we went sightseeing (they even offered us umbrellas!) and then came to get us in the evening to bring us to the hotel. The included dinner and breakfast were amazing, it really was a luxurious experience! The onsen accepted tatoos so another plus. The seaside view was beautiful even if the weather was not ideal.
Onomichi
Guest House Gamigami in Onomichi provides accommodations with a garden, a terrace, and a shared lounge. This beachfront property offers access to free Wifi and free private parking. Gamigami is located with a fantastic view across the inland sea with islands near and in the distance. It is a pity that cables are in this view as seen from the rooms but you can go up on the flat roof for an unobstructed view. It is not very far on a nearly flat road to the ferry to Onomichi so it makes a good last night if you are cycling from Imabari taking several days as we did. We had a comfort Japanese style room.
Hatsukaichi
Guest House Diphylleia Grayi offers accommodations in Hatsukaichi, 12 miles from Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and 12 miles from Atomic Bomb Dome. The owner was amazing and helpful.
Ikuchi Island, Onomichi
GLAMPDOME SETOUCHI-SHIMANAMI enjoys a location in Onomichi, 14 miles from Oogamiyama Omoto Shrine and 16 miles from Saikon-ji Temple.
Kure
SASAKOJIMA cottage offers accommodations in Kure, 10 miles from Ondonoseto Park and 11 miles from Areikarasukojima Park. This beachfront property offers access to a terrace and free private parking. A unique self-catering experience which includes the added attraction of the adjacent H F Royce Museum which has a small (18 vehicles) but interesting collection of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars - a must for car enthusiasts. Indeed, the 'quality' element of the cars is reflected in the accommodation - illuminated with Swarovski crystal chandeliers, equipped with fine Noritake and Wedgwood china, not to mention the latest Panasonic washlet toilets. Sasakojima Cottages is an unusual destination, I think, for European visitors to Japan as it is a bit off the beaten track but it has a lovely location fronting onto a beautiful bay looking southward to the Inland Sea and multiple islands. If you are looking to chill, this is the place but you will most probably need to hire a vehicle to get out and about. It provides excellent self-contained accommodation (we stayed for nearly two weeks) and as there is not too much choice in the way of nearby eateries, you will most probably want to do a daily shop for food. That said, Sasakojima Cottages has a very good lunchtime only restaurant. Opened earlier in 2022, Sasakojima Cottages clearly caters for Japanese visitors stopping for only one or two nights. I would encourage the extraordinary owner or manager to pack a bag and stay for three or four nights on a purely self-catering basis to fully realise the potential of this beautifully-located and unique venue.
