Describe your best tactic for travelling on the cheap in Al Madinah.

Use the local taxis, who know their way around. Yes, they may not be cheap; but you can make them cheap if you bargain with them for the rate before you set out on your trip. If you agree to price in advance, the taxi is the cheapest and most suitable mode of transport. Otherwise, the cheapest mode of transport will be the public buses, which is not a very regulated service at this time; but the is a comprehensive improvement program underway, in tandem with the construction of the high-speed train link. So the entire public transport network in Medina and across then entire Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not just get a face-lift, it will be completely reinvented. Examples of this are: - The high-speed train link, which will be the fastest in the world on completion. - The Riyadh & Jeddah Metro network, for which the construction has already started. - The local bus system, which is presently undergoing a full review and a completely new system will be rolled out in time for the main cities, i.e. Mecca, Medina, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam and Al Khobar. All the above will be is work in progress and shall begin to be rolled out by the year 2016 in line with the completion of the high-speed train link.
