Lieke and Michael have a beautiful little lodge, with plenty of flora and fauna (we spent alot of time bird watching from our covered porch). The pool is even nicer than pictures and the temperature was perfect for cooling off. Food was excellent, and their included breakfasts were the best we had in CR (fruit and yogurt, great coffee, juice, tipico or pancake desayuno). We had our little girl there and she had a blast. With all the trees it felt very private, would go back in a heartbeat. The area is very quiet, which we loved, and tons of beaches.

Hotel Bahia Esmeralda is 656 feet from the beach in Potrero, in Costa Rica’s Guanacaste region. It features a free Wi-Fi zone and rooms set in bungalow-style buildings around an outdoor pool. Separate cottages of the hotel provide intimacy. Well thought out and maintained greenery: palm trees, cacti, banana trees, guanaste, flowering shrubs. In the middle is a swimming pool. Without leaving the hotel, we encountered the fauna of Costa Rica: sloths, iguanas, a herd of howlers and other monkeys, birds and colorful butterflies. Our suite was furnished very functionally. The entire facility was very neat and clean. We often enjoyed a very tasty pizza prepared on site. The hotel has a very good location. Portero Beach is right next door, and about 500 meters from the hotel is Penca Beach with yellow sand, almost empty at this time of year. There are two well-stocked stores and a fruit bazaar within 150 meters of the hotel, as well as several places to eat and a church nearby. The hotel staff was very knowledgeable, courteous and always available. They helped us resolve problems with the airline losing our luggage and with our car rental.
