United StatesGreat location in the middle of the reserve. Flew into the Kalama airstrip. The lodge helped us arrange transportation from the airstrip to the lodge, a 45 minute drive. Apin was our driver and he was so friendly and knowledgeable,we hired him to guide us on all of our game drives. The lodge is wonderful, separate thatched roof bungalows with 2 rooms each. Large spacious rooms, traditional Samburu themed luxury . Beds are firmly comfortable, bathrooms large, great shower. Very quiet location. The buffet serves delicious food and offers many choices; Kenyan, Indian,English and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Enjoyed eating meals while watching animals visit the watering hole situated in front of the dining area. The swimming pool offered us a chance to cool off. The staff were amazing, everyone made us feel welcome and happy to be at Sopa. Samburu National Reserve is warmer and drier than many of Kenyan parks, however, I highly recommend visiting due to the more mountainous terrain and the amazingly unique wildlife. Staying at Sopa lodge really enhanced our stay.
