AustriaThe staff was the nicest and most attentive I have yet experienced. They carried our luggage all the way up to the hotel because there were only steps, no ramps. They also parked our car because the parking situation is a bit difficult there. The receptionist gave us inspiration on what to do in the city and also recommended the free walking tour to us, which was great.
The room was very pretty and smelled really nice the first time we entered, and it was cleaned every day. Breakfast was amazing, they prepared it freshly for us and served it to the table. The fried eggs were spot on. It was also nice to sit on the terrace while having good coffee.
The way to the city center was a bit of a climb but with the shortcut the staff showed us it was manageable.

United StatesAbsolutely outstanding stay and great value for money. Clean, comfortable rooms in a quiet location outside of the busiest tourist areas with good breakfast. Maradona and his family were great. They picked me up from the bus station, dropped me back off at the station when I left, and were available to take me (and other guests) to and from downtown, all free of charge. Maradona also helped me figure out the bus schedule to leave Gjirokaster. Dinner at the hotel restaurant is also tasty and very affordable (200 lek per dish).

Old Gjirokaster is a well preserved historical city worth visiting. The atmosphere of old world is all around in the beautiful mansions, the cobbled uphill/downhill streets, the massive castle looming above it all. The people are friendly, the prices reasonable. A helpful tip, wear thick-soled shoes as the pretty cobble-stones can be felt under your feet after walking a while or if you have sore knees/hips/ankles use a walking stick for support going up/down the inclines and stairs. Highly recommended.

Gjirokaster is lovely!
Gjirokaster is lovely! A great deal to do and see - the best activity is, of course, people watching. We met and had dinner with two other traveling couples because the city has a relaxed, welcoming aura. The shopping was quite nice, too.

Gjirokastër is well worth a visit.
Gjirokastër is well worth a visit. From the main street (bus terminal), it’s a fairly steep climb to the main tourist area and castle. Beyond the castle, and much less crowed, you can make a hike to Ali Pasha bridge.
The castle offers a pleasant viewpoint over the valley, and the obelisk also provides a good view of modern Gjirokastër.

It’s usually a day trip destination, but we decided to stay for 4 nights. The old town was a nice place to walk around. The castle was a must visit. On the other days, we rented a car and drive to Sarande, Ksamil, Permet (thermos bath.
We took a bus from Athens (we paid 5€ for the taxi to take us up to our hotel). After the 4 days, we took a bus to Tirana.

Nice little hotel in the middle of the old town of Gjirokaster. The location could not be better, being right in the middle of the beautiful city center. The terrace where you have breakfast has nice views of the old town. The breakfast was very good, the best that we had in Albania.
The owners were very nice and helpful, and offered tips about what to do in Gjirokaster and Albania.
The rooms were clean, and overall of good quality.
Overall, we had a nice stay in Alsara Guesthouse.

The hotel was on a mountain top, looking down at Gjirokaster! Absolutely lovely view! Amazing infinity pool, Unfortunately for us we arrived during a storm, so could not use it. Food was okay, nothing special. Breakfast was standard. The room itself, was probably one of the nicest hotel rooms I've stayed in. Really spacious, really well decorated and thought out. View from balcony was spectacular. They provide coffee and tea.

The perfect place to stay in Gjirokaster! It’s a beautiful and peaceful little hotel with comfortable rooms and a lovely breakfast provided. Perfect location in the old town, a short walk to the castle and gorgeous views of the mountains from our room. We had our washing done for us and felt very well looked after by the lovely hotel owners :)

I highly recommend Hotel Kalemi. Such great staffs, beautiful views from the room & balcony of the hotel, and beautifully designed hotel. We will stay again in the future when we come back to visit Albania. Breakfast was delicious, and rooms were very spacious.
