United StatesThis hut is privately run by a family from Nepal. Our stay there felt so very peaceful, and the food was lovely. The location is absolutely beautiful. Really enjoyed being there. We hiked down to Hallstatt from there, and the trail was very well maintained and offered amazing views.

United StatesWhen we arrived, it was the off season. Most restaurants, shops, and hotels were closed. However, we were upgraded to a stay at Dormio Resort Obertraun and it was beautiful. Right by the lake. The food was also delicious and the staff helpful and friendly.

We travelled with 3 different trains from Vienna to Obertraun in order to visit Hallstat. Unfortunately, the transportation wasn't very convenient for us. One of the trains that we had arranged was late and we had to wait two more hours in order to get the last train to Obertraun. We departed from Vienna at 8:00 and we arrived to Obertraun at 15:30! Obertraun was very close to Hallstat. Hallstat is a magical place but next time I would prefer to visit it by car.

Stay in beautiful Obertraun instead of the overpriced and crowded Hallstatt! We stayed 3 nights in a lovely accommodation Haus Edelweiss, and following the recommendations of lovely host Nina, we spent one day walking from Obertruan to Hallstatt. Along the way, we saw this stone path going up the hill and we went up (very do-able hike), and it led to a very beautiful view of Hallstatt! We then went down the other way and continued walking towards Hallstatt, explored the beautiful village and took the ferry (Euro 12/pax) back to Obertruan. Next day, we walked a loop from Obertruan to Koppenwinlsee. The walk was very lovely and we saw tiny red strawberries everywhere! There was a restaurant after Koppenwinslee but I think it was closed on Mon-Wed (please check), and other days open for lunch & dinner, so time yourself to make it in time for lunch/dinner. We were stopping so often to admire the scenery that we missed their lunch time! It is better to visit during non-summer to enjoy Austria.

Very very beautiful place, it just like fairy tales story!
Very very beautiful place, it just like fairy tales story! Even we missed the bus to go to Hallstatt, just chilling on this river side it was still a very good moment and experience. The swan came to eat my shoes btw.

We liked Obertraun because it was an easy 40 minute walk to Hallstatt and after spending a day there, we could get away from the crowds and numerous shops for some peace and quiet in Obertraun. Obertraun has unobstructed views of the beautiful mountains.
We didn’t particularly like having only one restaurant in Obertraun open for meals. Thank God the pizzeria had a variety of decent food as we had to eat there on both nights.

Obertraun is great spot for tourists and people who like...
Obertraun is great spot for tourists and people who like hiking in Dachstein area. The town itself is not so big and crowdy. There is one supermarket and only few restaurants in the town but Hallstatt and other towns are not far away by car. Close proximity to Hallstattersee is also big benefit for summer swimming or walking along the lake.

The resort is just a few minutes away from Hallstatt so it's really handy if you want to visit.
The grounds of the hotel are on the same lake which make it even nicer. When we arrived there were people catching rays and having a swim. The apartment was ok it had a very well equipped kitchen. They have ebikes if you want to hire them to explore, and you have a private parking place for each apartment. Breakfast was brilliant, we didn't try the restaurant. Overall I would definitely recommend it, I would have stayed longer.

The localization is Obertraun is great as Hallstatt is very crowed. Very close to the train station but we cannot hear anything, it has a backery and pizzaria close by. We made our own dinner in the kitchen and had all you need. Also you can easily walk to Hallstatt as it not the far from the last Parking area.
The owner is very friendly and replies very quickly to our messages.
I definitely recommend the place.

The host was so kind that I felt at ease. Personally, Obertraun left a deeper impression on me and will remain in my memory longer than Hallstatt. It's such a leisurely village! Although this trip was short, I plan to come back in the fall for a longer vacation. There's a bike rental shop nearby, so exploring every corner of the village would be great!

The hotel is located at a very scenic spot, right across the lake from the Hallsttat town. The lakeside public park in front of the hotel offers a peaceful relaxing spot where you can come and unwind in the evening after a tiring day of excursion.
The ferry point (to catch ferry to Hallstatt) is also right next to the Hotel.

The location of the hotel is good if you choose to arrive by train which is 5 min walking distances from Obertraun station, you can also go to Hallstatt by bus 543, the bus station just behind the hotel
