Made famous for its “hills alive with the sound of music”, Salzburg is a very pretty town filled with romantic buildings and squares. If you are not yet aware that Mozart was born here, then you will be as soon as you land at Salzburg W.A. Mozart
International Airport. Further your education about this musical prodigy at his actual birthplace, Mozarts Geburtshaus.
The city is the namesake of the Salzach River which runs through it, and alongside this beautiful river lays the Schloss Mirabell, one of the many impressive castles within the city limits. Schloss Mirabell and Hellbrunn with their picturesque gardens, beautiful galleries and impressive halls make the ideal spot for a picnic during summer.
The white-stone Hohensalzburg fortress is perched upon a green hill and offers magnificent views over the city. Or, you can escape it all in the Kapuzinerberg forest, which offers splendid Alpine vistas- a reminder of Salzburg’s natural beauty.
The shopping centre focuses around Alter Markt Square and Getreidegasse, the latter is a quirky street with old-fashioned signs indicating what each store sells. With 125 hotels and guesthouses available on Booking.com, your stay in Salzburg is bound to be as pleasant as this city is pretty.
Honestly one of the most beautiful cities I’ve come across.
Honestly one of the most beautiful cities I’ve come across. It looks like something out of a fairy tale. Very easy to get around either walking or regular buses. Although most people can speak English it would be helpful to have a few German phrases to hand.
Get the Salzburg card!! It will save you a lot of money and enables you to plan out your trip as it lists all the amazing things you can do. You can spread it out (depending on the time span of the card you get) or you could squeeze a lot of it in 2/3 days. Have your phone fully charged, you will be taking a lot of pictures and videos. The cable car is unbelievable. It keeps going up and up so if you are weary with heights (like I was) maybe close your eyes in the cable car but still go!! You’ll be glad you did when you reach the different peaks at around 1800m mark. The old town is just amazing. So peaceful yet busy. Never felt anything but safe.

I visited the Altstadt in the early morning so it is not so crowded. There are always events with live music in Mirabell Palace, and Mozart birthplace is overrated. You will find stores selling chocolates for 20 euros and the next street for half of the price so dont jump and buy at the first store you see.
Kapuzinerkloster and all the trails over there worth a day to enjoy if you like trekking.
I went to Wolfgangsee in the 150 bus that you can take at the main station, and it takes only 40 minutes going via St Gilgen which is also a very beautiful place to visit (expensive to eat but top quality food make it worth it).

Salzburg is always worth a trip.
Salzburg is always worth a trip. It's an interesting city with many good restaurants. We had afternoon tea in Cafe Bazaar and Hotel Sache. We had dinner at the Terrance Restaurant with superb views but the food was overpriced and not very good. We were served with some dips and bread which we thought was gratis but cost €5pp. The waiters were very friendly though. We also went to Stern Bräu which served excellent local food of superb quality.
We visited the usual sights which were all very interesting. We especially enjoyed our visit to Hellbrunn Castle.

Pretty town, lots of alleyways to walk around.
Pretty town, lots of alleyways to walk around. Although shops mostly closed on Sunday, wise to book ahead for supper reservation in high season. Ate at Zwettler's, reserve ahead or queue, nice schnitzel and fries, not fancy but good basic food and outdoor seats. Great service. Would go again. People were queueing for seats all night long on a Sunday!

The good time we had in Salzburg and Halstatt salvaged our holiday from the immense disappointment of the Taylor Swift tour cancellation.
We loved Salzburg, the Mozart concert, Sound of music tour and the trip to Halstatt. Everyone was so friendly and helpful!
Absolutely a 10 out of 10 hotel in Salzburg. We had a great stay here; the bus station was just beneath the hotel. The staff were amazing, giving us tips on what to see, what to eat, and even providing us with the bus schedule and directions for returning. The free apples were a great touch! Since we had a car, we were able to park at the hotel for free and ride the bus to the city centre. The room was also excellent. This was a great location for our day trips to Zell am See and other places."
It's not the best hotel i stayed in Austria at this price however all the hotels in Salzburg are quite expensive. The staff was friendly and the room was clean.
The walking distance to the old town is about 15-20 minutes, but we didn't bother cause everything was pretty to look at. Also, it is relatively close to the Salzburg Centeal station.
Great location for visiting Salzburg! Hotel is a 5-minute walk from Old Town (all famous sights, good cafe's and restaurants) through a historical tunnel. Rooms are nice, shower is great and neighbourhood peaceful.
A quiet small hotel in the heart of Salzburg with a short walk to the Old Town. Rooms were clean with excellent facilities and very well furnished. Staff were very helpful with free coffee/tea available all day.
Clean and trendy boutique hotel. Location was quite convenient and has beautiful views of the river and old town. Breakfast was superb and generous. I would stay here again when in Salzburg.
