It was rainy and GPS took us through narrow roads as an event was going on. When we get to where to stay, had no clue where to check in, finally got checked and to our room. Photos on line look better than where we stayed. Wouldn’t go back

We are from Colorado so it was similar to Breckenridge or other small mountain towns. There are plenty of hills in town so it was a great "walking exercise experience." There are plenty of grocery stores and cheaper than the US. The situation of the town is beautiful!

Great location for those who want to travel in the province of Salzburg. We went for a walk on Ghost Mountain (the cable car a few hundred meters from the hotel). We took a trip to the Lichtenstein Gorge - this place is a MUST! Its five-minute drive - during busy times in the summer, it's convenient because you can start the day there when it's not too busy and hot yet. The trip to other attractions and sites is also short and the hotel itself is very close to the highway for those who want to reach sites such as the salt mines in Hallein, Hohenwerfen Castle, Salzburg and more. The town of St. Johann im Pongau has many shops and the area has some good restaurants with local food.

The city has all what a tourist needs.
The city has all what a tourist needs. One may say typical Apline city, but has it's nice unique spots - for me: the old bridge neighbourhood (I'd say the old town). As it is located on a slope for me it's more pictureous than others located just in a valley.

Sank Johann was a very pretty town with a good range of shops, restaurants and cafes. We were there for the Skiing so did not spend a lot of time in the town, or at some of the attractions. However I have been coming to Sank Johann in the winter since 2009 and have never been disappointed.
I have never visited in the summer but I can only assume that it will be also be an excellent base from which to explore the area.
Bus service is excellent and Salzburg is only 1hr 15 away. €11 by train and does not require you to change trains.

The mountains around St Johann im Pongau are wonderful, the town its self has changed a lot. It used to be the main place to stay for winter sports in the area, but this has slowly been superseded by Alpendorf where there are a number of modern hotels and apartments (often moderately expensive).
This has caused a lot of the change which includes many of the great bars and restaurants closing and being replaced by some modern residential buildings (most recently the Silbergasse which we all loved).
Of course, if you stay on the edge of town, or a little up the hill (as we did this time), then there are beautiful places to stay. The remaining Hotels like Alpenland, The Brückenwirt and the Lerch and others can also be highly reccomended. Recently, the local Hahnbaum chair lift (where we started skiing in the early 80s) was removed and not replaced. That used to be a great place to ski with the locals on a Sunday after a later night out at ski lovers bar (also long gone). A beginner's area with a T-Lift and Banana lift still exist on the Hahnbaum, but in general you will ski out of Alpendorf (5 minutes drive up the hill), or you just have a short drive to many of the other "Salzburger Skiwelt" areas such as Großarl and Hoch König to mention just 2 out of many.
The town has expanded somewhat over the years, on the plus side this gives plenty of scope for food shopping if you are staying in an apartment. It is a town that many (like us) still love as we have been visiting for so many years, and it is always great to see familiar faces when on a winter holiday. The local people have always been extremely welcoming and very friendly.
Some prefer Wagrain, which has retained its quaint mountain village / town atmosphere and not as crowded as Flachau. Close by is Kleinarl which is a perfect Family resort.
For us, St Johann was and still is the center of the Salzburger Ski Welt, and we will hopefully be regulars for many years to come.

Great location - only a few min walk to the ski bus station (bus to Alpendorf), and 10 min walk to the Bahnhof.
Great breakfast! Other than the usual (cold cuts, cheese, bread, condiments, hard boiled eggs, coffee and tea), they also had pate and a veggie dip platter.
The host was absolutely lovely - warm, enthusiastic, helpful, and made the house a generally welcoming place.
Spacious room - even had an electronic hob available in the cupboards, a pleasant surprise!
Perfect place for skiing, as it sits directly on slope. You can put ski on at hotels door and finish the day at the same place.
As usual in Austria, you will love the cuisine, restaurant is great. Room was good enough, no complaints about equipment, but i didn't expect anything above standard. Mattress was quite tough, i like that. The walls are maybe a little bit thin, you can hear a lot sometimes.
The staff was very cute,
Very comfortable rooms, the hotel is new with a balcony, very nice place and view.
If you have kids it's a bonus to be in this place,a whirlpool great, real bunny you can touch it's really great.a good breakfast,a good coffee.
Thanks so much.
We had a great week in Alpendorf, would recommend this appartment complex. Great view of the valley. New property (2021), well maintained. Friendly staff who operate on the basis of trusting their guests (which is nice for a change). Nice pool for the kids.
Staff in the hotel and restaurant were very helpful and attentive. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. There was dedicated secure storage for our bikes in the basement.
