A more beautiful peaceful vacation could not be imagined. The mountains are breathtaking. The quietness speaks to you, and I left feeling more peaceful than I have in years. We were there in May, and I understand the tourist scene in June and July is a bit busier. There is a lot to do in the village besides gazing at the scenery. St Wofgang is a small, beautiful town situated right on the lake. A good amount of restaurants and shops. The town had a music festival and dance performance outside while we were there. Seems like there are always things going on at the weekend in the spring/summer. We enjoyed a boat ride on the lake, visited Hallstadt and the saltmines there, and took the cog railroad up the mountain for amazing views of the whole area. Excellent place with so many possibilities in domain of walking, Wellness & Spa activities, exploring restaurants with great food and drinks, etc. It is traditionally oriented to the Austrian culture and has incredible nature of the Wolfgang See surroundings... St. Wolfgang is lovely but not pedestrian-friendly.
St. Wolfgang is lovely but not pedestrian-friendly. The town is chopped up by a highway tunnel. The road from the Garni Buchinger hotel into the town is narrow, mostly with no sidewalks and pitch dark at night. There's a lot of traffic on this road making it unsafe for pedestrians. It’s completely renovated so it has all the comforts you might need. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen was newly furnished and clean and there was a balcony to relax on. In the room there was also free access to Netflix with the owner’s account so that was a nice plus. The owner was very kind to explain to us all the features of the apartment and also provide additional amenities. It is very spacious, cosy and comfortable and had all the facilities you need. The location is great, few minutes from the lake, and close to the center of St. Wolfgang (shops, restaurants, supermarket, pharmacy…) and to the hiking trails. Also the train station to Schafberg and the ferry’s to cross the lake are very close (10 or 15min walking approximately). We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful and peaceful place! It is 2 minutes walk to the lake and very close to all the walking trails. The family run hotel is clean with friendly owners and staff.
