Bairnsdale is a good country town with supermarkets, cafes...
Bairnsdale is a good country town with supermarkets, cafes and other shops. There is a train staion and local buses. There is a river with nice waterside walks. The Catholic church of St Marys is particularly worth a visit as the ceiling has been painted in the Italian style. (See my photos)

The resort was wonderful, I cannot fault anything at all. The place was clean, comfortable and the staff all went out of their way to accommodate us! We enjoyed great food at different venues and visited Painsville, Lakes Entrance and did sight seeing in Bairnsdale. The Information centre was a great help. The only thing I didn't really like was the noise of the traffic early in the morning.Fourie - Scored 1010

Bairnsdale has many good cafes, pubs and restaurants - lovely places to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner. We generally visit to see family, but Bairnsdale is a great base from which to explore all the local attractions - including, for example, the Buchan Caves.

Bairnsdale is a large country town.
Bairnsdale is a large country town. The Catholic Church as you you enter from the Melbourne side on the left is definitely worth a visit. A volunteer is available and has a wealth of information in relation to the church and history of the area. Not to be missed. There are plenty of shops, the Potted Pear, gift wares, is great. There are museums, historical and Aboriginal. Bairnsdale is a lovely place for a day visit.JoanneAustralia - Scored 8.08.0

Typical Australian town which is busy during the day and completely dead at night. Felt quite safe to walk around early evening but can't comment on late evening.All usual shops available. We ate at the Cow & Fish Pub which was excellent for food but lacked soft furnishings in the dining area. Felt it was a bit like a social club rather than a hotel/restaurant. Very convenient for us as travelling down to Paynesville and Lakes Entrance which is only a 25 minute drive away. Also played golf at Metung Country Club which was excellent including lunch at the club house.LindaUnited Kingdom
