FAQs about hotels in Brisbane

Sun-drenched & Leafy

At the meeting point of Australia’s Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, laid-back Brisbane is spread around the meandering river running through it. The river’s artsy South Bank is home to Australia’s largest modern art gallery, tranquil gardens and an artificial beach. Just across the river is the towering skyline of Brisbane's central business district, the location of many hotels in central Brisbane.

Nearby are the botanic gardens and Queen Street Mall, the most popular Brisbane shopping spot. There are more shopping centers all over the city, and the out-of-town malls include one in the Indooroopilly suburb by the foothills of Mount Coot-tha.

This green hill offers fabulous city views and has a planetarium, nature reserve and yet more botanic gardens. In Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to the south, you can hug one of the lovable animals, while Australia Zoo – Steve Irwin’s legacy – is a good day trip.

Brisbane is a very leafy city and one of its parks, Wickham Park, contains the Old Windmill, Brisbane’s oldest building. To the northeast, the Fortitude Valley suburb is known for its vibrant music scene and Chinatown. Across the river in Woolloongabba is The Gabba or Brisbane Cricket Ground, and nearby is the bohemian West End district.

Booking.com has plenty of downtown hotels, and other accommodations near Brisbane Airport in a northeastern coastal suburb.

Brisbane is a really beautiful city and is very easy to navigate. While there are not a lot of landmarks in the CBD as in Sydney, it’s fantastic to cruise on the river as a novel way to see the city. You can get on and off the ferry to visit the many restaurants or to explore Southbank. I was surprised at the number of people out in Queen St Mall on a Friday night and on Saturday so there was a very vibrant atmosphere. On Saturday morning I had breakfast at a cafe in the beautiful 100 year old Brisbane Arcade as there didn’t seem to be many cafes in the Mall. I think new Casino will be a draw card for dining.

No signage for walkers from the airport to the Ibis Brisbane Hotel. Completely useless and as we arrived near midnight, was a safety concern for us as we were walking all around the car park trying to figure our way out. Having a sign saying something like "Hotel conferences" is no use at all - how would a foreigner know that the Ibis is also a conference hotel? Why not simply have the Ibis name and logo displayed??

I love the variety Brisbane offers. You can dine out on a budget or treat yourself to something special. The shopping is fantastic with something for everybody. But it's the views that make it special. This is an exceptionally beautiful city.

Brisbane is a really vibrant city and a great place to...

Brisbane is a really vibrant city and a great place to explore for a few nights. We loved the South Bank area. The kids enjoyed the playground and pools. There are so many restaurants and coffee shops to choose from you can eat out for every meal, just watch out for the bin chickens. We used the river boats to travel to reduce the amount of walking for the kids, which was free with our AFL tickets. We went to a couple of museums, but the kids favourite day was at Wet n Wild. As we went in August there were no queues and the kids loved it. The only thing I didn't like about Brisbane were the electric scooters. They are everywhere, both rental ones and private, and are dangerous to pedestrians. We nearly got taken out by one a few times whilst walking on the pavements with our kids, something needs to be done to police them better before someone gets seriously hurt.

The city has come of age and now compares favourably with Sydney and Melbourne for its shopping and dining experience. The are plenty of restaurants and bars along the promenade which are all within walking distance and are a must visit.

Everything, from the communication with the property to the location of the property. This was my first time actually staying in Brisbane, as I had travelled there several times before and I chose the perfect place to stay. The apartments are appointed beautifully, it is located in the CBD so you are a walking distance to large shopping malls and some awesome pubs and restaurants as well as some quirky little restaurants.

We have stayed at Opera Apartments a few times now and always enjoy our time there although our room wasn't quite as good as we've had on previous occasions. The location however is excellent being close to all the facilities on offer in South Brisbane and Southbank, including the train station.
