South Bank has a lot to offer, even the man-made beach\. Even offering Green Taxis with music, what a blast. The hop-on, hop-off ferry was a surprise - free. Now that is a bonus for the tourists. Found out the trains was free in the weekend. Also it is so affordable, just buy a GO card and top up. Has a lot of tourist attractions - I went to see all the churches within walking distance. People are friendly. Even the streeties who live on the streets. Helpful and has a story to tell of their life. Also they live on the street and would make good ambassadors for the city for tourist to find locations and streets. Shopping was great as usual. Lots of bargains. Loved the Souvenir shops that were open late. Eating out was a smorgasbord of choices. The 'i' center staff were very helpful and could not be faulted, even though a few staff could put a smile on their faces and try to be as though they are happy to be a t work and to help the tourists.
Brisbane is a compact city sitting both sides of the river. We stayed on the Southside this time as we had already visited 10 years ago and had a hotel on the Northbank. We did the river cruise which was very enjoyable and an interesting history of the city which has had many floods since it was built. Well worth the price. I would recommend the Koala Sanctuary to a first time visitor. Take plenty of water with you as it gets stifling in there! The Southside has a man-made beach and swimming pool area which is ideal for families. It was very hot and busy whilst we were there a week or so ago. Beautifully clean for young children too. Brisbane is city prices as you would expect. The food is cosmopolitan and the usual Aussie tucker/fast food outlets are everywhere there. Expensive up-market eateries are everywhere too. Brisbane is a different experience to Sydney and well worth a few days to soak in the riverlife.
My stay in Brisbane was a cullinary experience. There are so many great places to eat and also shop.James street at New Farm has great restaurants and shops I especially love Tinder Box which we shared a beautiful meal with our family. You can head over to Tennerriffe and find brewery's and breakfast hubs also Thai Massage and the old gasworks which has a lovely park ,shopping and lots of restaurants to choose from. Another place I like to go for coffee and food is Source in Tennerriffe they buy in all local produce from the area the shop is awesome you will want to buy all the lovely fresh organic produce.
Having people to guide us with knowledge about the city, buses and trains was really helpful. South Bank fast became our favourite place - the promenade, the beach, the river boat rides.. Movies/eating/drinking/meeting places - it has it all. The Gold Coast not too far away for those wanting to do the theme parks either. Using the trains was so easy and quick - made getting around the city a breeze compared to trying to drive!!! So far between start/finish points when on the roads - I was amazed at how far people travel to and from on a daily basis - but having said that - the roads are good. The one thing I wouldnt do again is hire a car when staying in the city. It is honestly so much easier, quicker and cheaper to simply get a GoCard and get on a bus or a train.
The Queensland Museum located in the Cultural Centre was free and was a great visit. Also located here is the Sciencentre. Although we did find it really fun, it's probably more suited to children. There is lots of nightlife around the city. We visited Chinatown (which was super busy on a Saturday night), as well as the area around Caxton Street. About an hour away by train from Brisbane CBD is the Gold Coast and all of the theme parks. We only had time to visit Movie World and Wet 'n' Wild, both are worth a visit, although get there early to beat the crowds. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was one of the highlights of our stay. Here you can cuddle a koala, feed kangaroos and wallabies and check out plenty of other native Australian wildlife. This hidden gem is around a 40 minute bus ride from Brisbane CBD.
Easy to get around and get a real feel of Brisbane We used ALL the transport options over our 4 day visit; Car hire is central; City Cat Ferry service is frequent and easy to use (there are free ferries that take you between north and south banks); free City Loop bus is the best way to get your bearings; and walking is ok if not too hot! Must dos: Southbank and the wheel James Street cafes in Fortitude Valley Redcliffe; where the Bee Gees grew up Lighthouse restaurant in Cleveland; get fish and chip take out and eat in bar area Eagle Street restaurant; plenty of choice Botanical Garden; Riverside market on Sunday mornings Shopping on Queens Street
The decor of this hotel is absolutely GORGEOUS. My partner and I stayed in a Vista King Suite and immediately fell in love with the view and amenities in our room. Upon entry, we received a warm greeting on the TV screen and there was an itinerary of events, happy hours and etc. going on in the hotel. Cocktails aren’t cheap but they are well worth it. Brisbane Central Business District, Brisbane
Although everything was great, the exceptional part which made me write this review is the following. Our plans changed on the last day so I called the reception in order to inform them and they were kind enough to not charge us for the cancelled night which was not even my expectation. Thanks for your understanding!
