Low-key vibe to the area and town. Not at all built up, considering it is a popular destination. Loads of great restaurants, accommodation and shops to choose from. Recommend using Byron Bay kayaks for watching the whales and dolphins, a highlight of my trip! Went to Bang Bang restaurant (Asian sharing - good food but noisy) and the Treehouse (great food). A beautiful bay nestled in the coast line. Lives up to its description of being picturesque. The lighthouse was worthy of a tour and the guide very informative and interesting. Would suggest staying slightly south at Lennox Head, or staying on the Gold Coast and making the one hour drive as a day trip. There is some nice drives in the Hinterland, but Byron Bay itself doesn't live up to expectations. It's really just commercial shops (the same in any other cities) and a beach, but charges way more than all the other beautiful beach towns not far away that have more character.Guest review byKellyAustralia - 10.0
The town center itself was a bit boring.
The town center itself was a bit boring. The weather was rainy so no beach but we did find some really lovely Cafe and patisserie's namely MASA bakery omg the most indulgent croissant, focaccia and bread. Also the shopping in the Industrial area was so good too. Found a Spanish leather boot shop which had 70 % off. We went to Auto Gyro and hubby went up for an hour Gyro flight. The views from the balcony are to die for - the pictures do not do it justice. There is a little coffee cart at the end of the beach but no shops (Byron Bay is a short drive away). The house was really well appointed with super comfy beds (and pillows) and everything that we needed, including beach towels, great showers (including a really cool outdoor shower) and three bathrooms.
