Dinner Plain is a very good place to stop at for a night or two if you are doing a road trip along the Great Alpine Road. Most of the accommodation places there are joined onto or are very close to others. You will need to be prepared to pay a little bit extra if you want to have the best kind of accommodation facilities there. Dinner Plain is good for skiing and tobogganing during the winter months, and it is good for nature walks during the summer months. If you go there during summer you can test yourself on the orienteering trail to see if you can manage to find all 10 of the markers.
The walks in the wildflower meadows, and snow gum woodlands were simply delightful! There were lots of things for everyone to do, all abilities and inclinations - for two active boys there was mountain biking and bushwalking, a swing at the lodge, and room to move. We loved having our dogs with us. The adults got to do longer bushwalks of 10-30km. The older folk had shorter, more gentle walks. The Room with a View Lookout walk was a hit!
Seems to be a purposely built town, lots of the same type of housing. Take food supplies with you, milk, bread, there is no convenience stores, supermarket or food shops, just a few restaurants. My trip was in Autumn, not sure what opens during the peak snow season, there was a small licensed supermarket in a ski shop, but it wasn't open when i was there.
I have been going to Dinner Palin for 31 years. For Easter and Skiing. This was the worst house I have ever stayed in. Dirty on arrival. Fridge and dishwasher not working well. Both need replacing. Fireplace fill of ash from previous stays, dirty finger marks all over the windows and house. Family rented other houses that were great and the same price for an extra night. After complaining the house was cleaned but still not worth the money for a very small kitchen in a dated house. No outdoor table and chairs.
We stayed for one night in February so, no snow activities. Hotel was perfect for breaking up the trip across the mountains. Room was large with small kitchen area and very comfy bed. Dinner in restaurant was good and staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place.
Such a beautiful place to stay & relax. The service at Hotel High Plains & Stones Throw was great. They were able to cater for all age groups form the very young to the older people. They even had colouring books for the kids. People that live there and work there were very helpful in answering questions. We will come again, sometime for a bit more of a holiday instead of one night. Thank you for having us
Absolutely nothing, never got to stay. Long story short, we got robbed by Dinner Plains. Due to very bad weather no matter what we tried, we couldn't get to the accommodation and when we tried to call and move our booking or recover some of the $400 per night cost, management refused to refund or rebook another stay, and hung up on us after driving 5hrs to get there.
The location was brilliant. The layout of the property was quirky and fun, adding to the mood of the stay. The people in Dinner Plain facilities were fantastic. The DVDs are old, but were fun. Lots of games and books etc. for quiet entertainment were available also. One of the bedrooms had a PS2, which was a bit of a novelty.
The surrounding is very quiet and plenty of bike trails and walking trails to explore. Even though the hotel rooms were all fully booked, it was very quiet throughout our stay. That was a bonus. One of the hotel staffs was super friendly (forgot to ask your name but you always had the red checkered shirt :p)
The location was amazing, right in the middle of Dinner Plain. The chalet was really spacious and well laid out. Plenty of light. The kitchen was very handy too. The bedroom was really spacious and even though it was cold outside, the inside was very warm.
It was cozy, had a really unique design and felt like a nice cabin in the woods. The bathroom was spacious, the kitchen had all the cutlery and kitchenware we needed, and it was right in the heart of dinner plain.
Location & enjoyable stay. Closeness to Hotel High Plains & Stones Throw which there staff were great in accommodating all the wedding guests, young & old. A lovely place to walk around & explore.
The bed in the lounge at the window with excellent views. Good location in Dinner Plain. Close to walking trails and tennis court and restaurants. Games available.
Loved the layout. Had everything you needed for a great stay. It was warm & welcoming. Lots of walks to do. Even snowed for us.
