The Historical Museum is amazing make time to attend this great part of HB. Great facilities so safe and peaceful. Beautiful spot. Sandy Straits has great views. The big cinema has the best caramel popcorn and great little cinema.
I have been going to Hervey Bay my whole life. Even though it is growing it still has a town feel. A great place for relaxing and the food scene is amazing covering all budgets. A trip to the bay would not be complete without a walk along Uragan Pier and fresh fish and chips. Such a lovely location for all ages.
The whale watching tours are fantastic. Take any one of those! However, I would not recommend taking the McKenzie Lake tour on it's own. If you're going to tour Fraser Island, pick a tour that takes you to other parts of the island in addition to the lake as well as other landmarks and allows you to view the local wildlife like the dingos which is what Fraser Island is known for. Pick a tour that will take you straight into the action rather than have you stay at the resort's on the island for lunch, half the time you are there. Book at least a day long tour full of sight seeing. Enjoy all the landmarks and wildlife, not boring stories about logging and dreamtime from a tour guide that talks too much. LoL!
Great if you want to go to Fraser Island or whale watching. It was cold and windy while we were there so walking was not really an option and there really isn't anything else to do. There was a shortage of good quality restaurants open in the evening but plenty of choices during the day. Part of the problem may have been that shops etc had ceased trading during covid. We will not visit Hervey Bay again but to be fair, I can see it might suit families with an abundance of caravan parks, motels, lovely beaches etc
Whale watching is second to none. We took tours with both Blue Dolphin Encounters and Pacific Whale Foundation which were both excellent. A walk along the esplanade is just beautiful and a walk down the pier just divine. Beautiful cafes and restaurants line the esplanade meaning there is something to please anyone's tastes. In particular, we enjoyed Aquavue, and the Bayswater. The little theatre at the Boat Club, while small, is excellent for service as well. A little stroll through the Botanical Gardens gave us something to cool off as well during a warm morning. Driving around town is easy.
Take a drive to Burrum Heads there are many cute spots to stop and enjoy on the way. Take a picnic. Whales gather and play for a while from July to peak season September and October Blue Dolphin are a great boat to see them on. We loved it so much we have bought a unit there and will go there every year.
Room was comfortable. Broken microwave in room on arrival but was replaced very quickly which was greatly appreciated. We granted permission to enter & replace while we visited relatives. However, on our last night, whilst we were out, somebody entered our room and swapped our TV with a completely different brand which obviously was faulty as it had lines through the picture. We think this was very rude & definitely NOT OK.
Such a different holiday for my grandsons, they loved every minute. Feeding bread to cattle and horses a bonus. First time horse riding and now they want a horse! Loved the chance to practise their tennis and meet other children. Breakfast really great. Staff lovely.
