Lovely country town with buildings going back more than 140 years. A lot old country style pub/hotels and shop buildings which in their peak made this a very busy town. Beautiful gardens next to the old Court House of an era which this town has seen halcyon times of past. Local people are friendly and quite a few living in the area that have been affected by the recent floods and quite happy to talk about it in a non-melancholy philosophical way. Many were devastated by the recent floods but they are resilient and stay on in this town. If you would like to see late 19-early 20 century buildings go to Maryborough. If you are of the baby-boomer generation in Brisbane, where I am from, it brings back memories.
A great tourist information centre that ran a free walking tour. There was a lot of history to follow such as the city's development, the wall murals and the Gallipoli to Armistice Memorial walk, A novelty was visiting the cistern chapel (highly decorated facilities).
Interesting town, with lots of history, accessible to both country and coast, a good stopping off point on a long trip and a good base to check out all the Fraser Coast has to offer without the busy and hectic hustle and bustle of the sea side towns.
We loved the Mary Poppins story bank experience, could of stayed all day! The wharf is lovely, having drinks over looking the marina. very quite, not much going on in the town itself. but overall a lovely place to visit. We have been a couple of times.
This is a wonderful place to visit for anyone who is interested in Queensland history, Queenslander and Colonial architecture and Mary Poppins/PL Travers - so much more there to see and do than I realised and am already planning our next visit! Great food choices, too, including historic pubs, more 'upscale' venues featuring local products/goods and even a 1950s American-style diner!
The people the friendly service food and the history of the town Close to Hervey Bay we went Whale Watching there The highlight of our trip along with seeing Abbey Skye singing at the Marybrough RSL that was amazing .Dinner at the RSL was well presented and delicious Breakfast at Port side Cafe was in my opinion world class great food staff and ambience
Maryborough
Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Hospital Cafe right next door (30 second walk) and open until 8pm on a Sunday night. We were able to get dinner at the cafe quickly and easily after a long day of driving. Undercover parking right in front of the room meant easy unloading when tired. We were able to order breakfast at the hotel and the best part EVER was that it gets put through the delivery doors that all motels used when I was a kid.
Maryborough
Not far off the Bruce and easy to locate, especially with Ned on guard :) Excellent value stop over, friendly staff, stayed in one of the compact cabins, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, hot shower, tea and coffee and milk , right next to lovely sparkling clean swimming pool, and hot meals available from garage next door, would absolutely recommend
Everything was as expected from a rent a room. I have to say the screen with your welcome you in person name and surname and the availability of chrome casting from your device on top of the already available entertainment was great. Made you feel special and looked after in some way.
