The town has many places to visit and eat all within an easy walking distance. We did not have one bad meal so everywhere seems great to eat at. The fish and chip shop between the two pubs does a great prawn and lettuce roll. There is an entertainment centre that hosts great events. The local beach and surrounding ones are beautiful and rarely crowded.
A "big" small town on the NSW mid north coast. Great as a holiday destination or as a stop off on the way further north/south. Great beaches for surfers and with an array to select from depending on conditions. Cute cafes and shops by the beach. Caravan parks and a lot of accommodation types to choose from. Lovely beach walks and a breakwall to stroll along or sit and people watch. The town itself is actually quite big with all the mod cons and good infrastructure including grocery stores and many good restaurants to choose from. I've been here many times (with both family including young kids as well as on my own) over the years and have always had a great stay - just love the feel of this place!
Port Macquarie as a place to visit is fine, but I wouldn't return to the Excelsior Motor Inn again as parking is limited and awkward. Other guests when leaving very early were noisy and inconsiderate. Cleaners began early and banged and crashed around so that I could not get any sleep. This was hours before check out time. The location was extremely noisy as well.
Everyone was friendly and the foreshore markets were excellent. THE Milk Bar wasn't as good as in previous years, yet the impact of covid upon staff availability has been felt everywhere. As there were so many travellers, I chose not to go into Town Central apart from breakfast at the Beach Shack with a limited menu and sole use of single use coffee cups being a disappointment. Scampies was nice and the squid entree I had at the bowling club was the tenderest I've ever had. It was lovely to be able to wander along the beach after dinner, without the crowd and fantastic to catch up with my friend since kindergarten, who is a local.
We would have loved to have stayed longer. We only had two nights, which was not enough although we fitted in as much as we could. Loved the history and the museums, as well as the wineries. Good shopping centre and plenty of great restaurants. It was very easy to get around Port Macquarie.
Great restaurants, amazing beaches and a small beachy town. Shops are great and are only 5-10 mins away from each other, and a great spot to travel to for families, couples, and I went with a friend for her birthday. It’s safe, convenient to get to everything and a quiet relaxing place to holiday at, it’s not full on like the Gold Coast. There’s not much night life (clubs, pubs), but the locals are friendly and happy to help. I would highly recommend a visit to Port Macquarie and please do visit Billabong Zoo! It was fantastic! I would recommend getting a fully self contained apartment like Oxley Coce where we stayed at as it was fantastic and great value for money snd doing some home cooking yourself! Wooly and Coles are not too far away and we bought frozen veggies and fresh salmon and bbq chicken and ready made salads and bottled water for dinner to save on take out. You really need to eat well so you have enough energy to go exploring! Please also visit the lighthouse and Lighthouse beach!! The Billabong soo and the lighthouse are a must see!
Port Macquarie
We have stayed at Northpoint Apartments several times over the past 5 yrs. The upside is definitely location, a quiet street and walking distance to all you need downtown, the break-wall, river an beaches. Views are good if you are on level 3 or above facing the river. Below that, the terrace level, is basically tree tops, other buildings and the caravan park. The apartments are roomy, self-contained and reasonably quiet. Occupancy was light following Coronavirus lockdown - but, for some reason management gave us a two bedroom suite.
Port Macquarie
Enjoyed my stay in the Surf Beach Motel - well located and quite for a good night's sleep. Reception were friendly and went out of their way to assist me to visit a sick family member in the nearby Port Macquarie Private Hospital. The rooms were immaculately clean and recently renovated and we'll appointed. Look no further also great value for money. I would definitely stay next time I visit Port Macquarie.
Port Macquarie
We stayed 4 nights, we were upgraded to a one bedroomed apartment, which meant we had a lovely large apartment, although the view was not good. The dishwasher and fridge are in need of an upgrade, so is the mattress, apart from this we had a great time. Handy to everything and the staff could not do enough for us. We loved this hotel and will definitely be staying again on our next visit to port Macquarie
Port Macquarie
Loved the feel and decor of the whole hotel, from the front, reception, rooms, pool and outdoor area. Very bright, modern and comfortable. Big comfortable rooms and great pool! Would stay again! We only stayed one night so didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, can't comment on the food.
Port Macquarie
This property is nice and simple. It's like Port Macquarie itself, straightforward. Not pretentious. It's not flash, and for the price who'd expect it to be? I'm not interested in flash anyway.
Port Macquarie
The apartments are a great size with two bathrooms, a spacious living room and large balcony. Also in a perfect central location close to all of Port Macquarie’s restaurants, shops and beach.
Port Macquarie
We liked the location of the cabins, especially our cabin which was hidden behind large palm trees. but the whole caravan park is unique, charming and special. The wifi is very good.

Awesome location! property maintained very well. Apartments are large enough and clean. Pools are heated and cleaned everyday. Staff is friendly. Overall very good experience.
