Bruges is undoubtedly stunning, but they certainly know how to charge for the experience - everything and everywhere was extremely expensive. In many places it was difficult to pay in cash, which was a problem. Public toilets all charge a euro, so be prepared with some small change, but they are not of a very good standard. We love Bruges and have visited for a few years now. Perfect fairytale place with cobbled streets and the smell of Belgian chocolate and waffles! It is very pretty any time of the year but especially at Christmas. I visit a lot of European cities. Even having fully researched, Bruges was better than what I expected. Bigger than what I expected. Great places for food but make sure you eat local menus. Some great value. Great sights to see. Boat trips are worth doing. Some of the on for tours are free. Bruges was a stop on the way back from Eastern Europe and it was far more than I expected. It was so interesting historically, architecturally and in so many other ways. Going for a boat trip across down is a must to get another perspective on the town. It's easy to walk around with so much to see and do.
