This was planned as a "pit-stop" enroute to another destination. We were pleasantly surprised by Hasselt. Charming town with good stylist shopping and great choice of wine-bars. Very friendly hospitable people.

Hasselt is a really interesting visit.
Hasselt is a really interesting visit. Its a small city centre that you can walk around with ease. Clean and very modern. Heavily pedestrianised so easy to get around on foot. Has a bit of an 'upmarket Brighton' feel about it. We liked it. Good for a long weekend visit (but no more).
Its not cheap to eat out in Hasselt but there is a huge amount of choice. We struggled to choose restaurants (wish we had eaten in the Orangery, as setting was lovely). People seemed very affluent and well dressed. Lots of shops.
We stayed for the Plopsa Indoor attraction, which we thought was very good. Our hotel was about a 20 minute walk from the city centre to the venue (the reviews suggest parking there is expensive). Attraction great for the kids and, even though summer, was surprisingly quiet. One word of advice, don't eat there. Its over priced and terrible.

Hasselt is a cute town.
Hasselt is a cute town. We were there when the shops were closed but the nightlife and choice of restaurants in the centre were great. We ate at a fantastic restaurant called Botanique (cater for vegetarians and vegans) and the service was great.

Hasselt is a small accessible city with many trendy shops, restaurants and bars (cocktail, wine ...). However, if you want to eat at a restaurant of your choice, it's advisable to book!
The best way to get around is by bicycle - once again, it's advisable to
book your bicycle in advance.
The city is safe for walking at night.
By car, it's close to beautiful woods and country side with plenty of excellent hiking paths.

Typical off the tourist track Belgian city.
Typical off the tourist track Belgian city. Lots of high end shops. Good choice of resturants. Staff in Tourist office very helpful.
Driving could be a bit problematic as streets are closed off for no apparent reason, giving the sat nav problems.
Building works (until 2020) in main square, new sewers.

Cycling was brilliant with a route outside hotel and easy access to ride under water route.
Japanese garden brilliant.
Short commute to Tongeren for Sunday antiques market, great little town plenty of shopping and restaurants
Like at most hotels in these challenging times, a lot of credit has to be given to the efforts made and the resourcefulness shown in dealing with the Covid measures. Especially good points for the cosy set dinner table in our room (even if we didn't request dinner) and the additional tableware in the room allowing for a comfortable confinement in your room without having to ask for a spoon or a wine glass every 5 minutes. Because of this, I booked an unforeseen additional night.
Wonderful location in Hasselt: A quick and easy walk from the train station and close to the center. When we arrived we jumped into the lovely pool despite the cool and changeable weather- invigorating! The room was warm and inviting , the shower was spacious and bright, bed was comfy. Our breakfast, as promised, was fabulous: Home made bread, rolls and salads, cookies and cakes freshly baked. Exceptional! Thanks for the lovely stay!
The breakfast was lovely and I loved the tea and coffee making facilities that was available 24/7 a great option. My daughters particularly enjoyed the hot chocolate.
The location of the hotel was perfect and was central to visiting Hasselt.
We would definitely visit again if we return to Hasselt The room was very spacious and the bathroom facilities were excellent, a superb shower!!
Everything about this hotel is designed with love and the ensemble is just astonishing. The owners are really welcoming and friendly, room is super spacious with a nice terrace overlooking a park. And the breakfast is simply amazing, couldn’t ask for more.
Super central location, conveniently located just outside the small ring in Hasselt and 5 min walk from the main square.
Very nice hotel, I definitely recommend it. The room was spacious, logically organized, quiet, very clean and recently renovated. The workers were friendly and also allowed me to check in later than it is officially stated. The breakfast was tasty, and it was even beautifully served for me at a table.
Overall, if I ever need to stay in Hasselt again, I would return here.
Room was modern European styled and very comfortable. Complimentary bottled water, chocolates and an apple every day. Beautiful bathroom. Sufficient power outlets at convenient spots. Excellent breakfast with wide range of choices in a beautiful restaurant. It's nice to see a hotel with personality vs the blandness of chain hotels.
We don't know about the Holiday Inn Express, because we were moved to the Holiday Inn at the Kattegatstraat. But this hotel was very nice, friendly and comfortable. Good breakfast as well. Really a great stay!
Parking advisable at the Blauwe Boulevard, 5 minutes walk north of the hotel (maybe 10 to the HI Express).
Nice hotel located in the centrum of the beautiful city of Hasselt. Very comfortable and clean. The room was spatious. The hotel proposes a parking (for 14 EUR/day) which is at very close walking distance from the hotel itself, which is very convenient. The breakfast was excellent. I really recommend this hotel!
The receptionist was very helpful as all the streets to the hotel were closed because of carnival. She directed us to an accessible car park which was easy to find & not too far away. Thank you
