We've been visiting Ypres for many years- it is a lovely compact city with plenty of amenities. We did notice that it was much quieter this year and a few shops and restaurants were either not open or permanently closed. We also definitely noticed how much more expensive things have become: we were spending around €180-€200 per day to eat, drink and function. A big drawer for many people planning a visit to Ypres is the famous Last Post ceremony. This is normally held directly under the Menen Gate, however, due to ongoing works the gate is closed for the time being so the ceremony is being held on the outside. Still well worth a visit but get there early to secure a view. The city is clean and safe with cheap parking too. For a nice walk, get onto the Ramparts and follow the footpath around the city walls. Finish off in the market square with a nice Belgian beer or a tasty coffee.
We are World War I buffs and Ypres is one of our favorite locations to stay for a few days while touring the Ypres Salient. The Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate every night at 8 is not to be missed. We suggest tour guide Soren Hawkes at passchendaelle@yahoo.co.uk as your first choice for a wonderful experience learning about the Great War in the Ypres salient.
We enjoyed Ypres as a centre. It was not too far to get to the battle fields, or to go on a guided tour if we wanted. Disappointingly, the Menin Gate was under scaffolding whilst we were there but the ceremony was still moving with a great Dutch choir singing too! Lots of choices of places to eat and the food trucks and music at night were great.
Beautifully maintained architecture, plenty of history and the last post played every day which is incredibly respectful and speaks volumes of the nature of the people. An excellent mixture of dining is available and Ypres is of course perfectly placed for travel. I will certainly visit again. This stay was all too short.
Ypres is a fantastic place to visit, both for the cultural and historical experiences. The main square (Grote Markt), is a lovely place full of bars and eating places; quality restaurants and fast food. There are several excellent museums telling the story of Ypres from its origins to its total rebuilding following the Great War. Ypres and the surrounding countryside was the focus of the main British and Commonwealth military effort during the War. There are more than 100 military cemeteries and other sites of interest to visit and reflect upon the destruction and loss that occurred there. If you get the opportunity, Ypres is a must to visit.
The reason I went to Ypres was to visit some war graves and for a battlefield tour. I did both and was very moved by the experience. Ypres itself amazed with how the city had been rebuilt and the history that it had. Lots to see and visit with walking and cycle routes if that's your thing. Can't think of anyone I spoke to that was not friendly and helpful. I walked everywhere, I found out easy to get around and find my way around. I ate in several restaurants, lovely ice cream shops and places to have a coffee and cake.

Communication with our hosts, in English via Whatsapp, was friendly, quick and easy. They provided a few fridge staples on arrival (including beer) which is a nice touch. The apartment is big, airy and very well equipped. There are two separate bedroom suites, both with a large walk-in shower and toilet. It has underfloor heating with separate controls for the beds and living areas, which is excellent. The location for Ypres is superb - less than 5 mins walk to the Menin Gate and Market Square.
The hotel has nice family-run feel. The room was recently refurbished and spotless. Breakfast was good and had wide choice. The restaurant served typical Belgian food and was good addition since there are not other restaurants within a walking-distance. The hotel is within an easy ride to all the major sights and the complimentary parking is an excellent bonus.
Super conveniently located in the center of Ieper, this family-run hotel offers excellent value for money. The owners are incredibly nice and helpful, the room was spotless and comfortable, and the breakfast was yummy. We had an issue with a light fixture in our room and the owner immediately came to fix it. would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!

Having been to Ypres several time on the annual boys pilgrimage this was the first time we stayed with Sofi and Lobe. It’s a real Tarmi’s which is wonderfully presented. The sun was out and the rear terrace is a great sun trap. Breakfast fantastic. Much more personal than staying in a large hotel. This will be our ‘go to’ place from now on.
The breakfast offered a wide selection of hot and cold food. The hotel is located in the centre of Ypres - approx 5-7 minute walk to Menim Gate. Restauarants and Bars are around the square as well as the hotel. The refubishment has improved the hotel enormously with modern rooms and comfortable beds. TV has some english news channels.

Very knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly hosts who were happy to help us make the most of our visit to Ypres and the surrounding area. The personal touch was a welcome and positive addition to the typical experience of a large/corporate hotel. It was a very short walk to the town centre
