Ariane is a family-run hotel offering modern rooms including a buffet-style breakfast, a 7-minute walk from Ypres' historical center with the Menin Gate and the In Flanders Fields Museum. This hotel exceeded my expectations in every way, starting with a friendly and efficient check-in on day 1 and check-out on day 3. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfortable. There was an individual thermostat which allowed the room temperature to be adjusted. Everything in the room worked well as designed. The hotel was full of First World War memorabilia from maps and photographs on the walls to uniforms and equipment in a showcase in the lobby (we were there to hike through WW1 battlefields so all of this was interesting to us). The bar and restaurant were convenient, clean and efficient and the food/drinks, including the self service hot coffee in the morning were excellent along with, again, the service. The icing on the cake was the convenient free parking lot in front of the hotel. As we were loading and unloading hiking gear each day at our car, this was really great for us. All in all, one of the best hotels I've stayed in (anywhere) and the only hotel I'll stay in in Ypres in the future. A very positive experience!

Staying in Ypres is the ideal place to base yourself to visit the various battle fields and memorials. You can reach all the main areas where the fighting took place, be it on foot, bicycle or powered transport. All the historical sites and war cemetaries are clearly signposted, and it can be difficult to visit so many places in one day. The Cloth Hall museum in Ypres is well worth a visit, and if your brave enough, you can climb the main tower to see a panoramic view of Ypres and beyond. Don't forget to visit the Menin Gate for the nightly playing of the "Last Post" by the Ypres fire service, but get there by 7:30, as the crowds do get large.
We love Ypres and have been many times, but never before to stay over. Two of our members participated in the Ceremony at the Menin Gate this time, which was very special. The town itself is lovely, very friendly in all the shops, bars restaurants. Great Museum, interesting walks around the ramparts. And St George's church is worth a visit especially if you were/are in any of the Guards battalions as they are featured in the main stained glass window. We ate at Brasserie Centrale on the main square. We've been eating there for over twenty years and the food is excellent. Try the ham shank! and had a drink in the small bar near the Ramparts Cemetery. Old fashioned and you can imagine how it was all those years ago.
Ypres is a pretty city, with nice pedestrian areas next to the river. It is calm and relaxing in general. There are plenty of museums. We visited the In Flanders Fields museum and we are very satisfied! It is very comprehensive and we learned a lot! We had trouble finding a restaurant around 4pm that was open and offering food. The restaurants seem to close for a few hours and open again later in the evening. In the evening, tough, we tried two restaurants and they told us they were fully booked. We finally found a very nice Indian restaurant La Taj and had dinner there. Another nice place for brunch that we tried is Fika.
If you are interested in histroy this is the place. A great location for tours of the WW1 battlefields and for eating out. The local population is extremely friendly and we are always sad to leave. Beware cyclists though.
Very cosy marketplace with flemish gothic houses and a lot of restaurants. Many memories of WW I with for example Flanders Field Museum, the Last Post , every day at 8 pm and many churchyards around Ypres. Also the walkingtour ' Vestingen' around the historic city is worthwile. In the area you find not to be missed things as Brewery Sint-Bernardus, the Dodengang , etc ...
The architecture and restaurants in Ypres make it a place to have a restful holiday and see the beautiful surrounding countryside and the memorials. The real jewels are the restaurants away from the market square - some of them are Michelin standard without having the prices, so worth looking in the back streets. The rebuilt town (it was devastated in WWI) is a testament to the architects and builders of the 1920s and the Menin Gate ceremony every night is a must. So many surrounding museums hidden away - one of the best is inside the Western Wall and through a restaurant and has the history of Ypres since the middle Ages.
This is a small (7 room) hotel 10 minutes drive from the centre of Ypres and is actually a great base for the WW1 tourist trail. It is quiet. The room was warm with a huge bed and the bathroom was a nice place to be in. It has an excellent dining room (great for celebrations) and a lovely garden. The staff are friendly and helpful. They speak English as well. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Thank you!
Great location in town centre. friendly and informative staff, Immaculately presented throughout. Rooms were spacious, beds were comfortable. A fantastic continental breakfast included in the price. I left behind my vehicle documents, Communication was first class and my documents were returned to me within five working days. I visit Ypres once a year and will book this hotel again, Outstanding.
Hotel is located in the town square, a very short walk to the Menin Gate. Shops and restaurants and tour providers also very close. Ypres train station is only a few minutes by car, or about 15 minutes walk, from Old Tom. Good breakfast. Helpful friendly staff. It is a very old building, and the facilities reflect this. But everything works, it's clean and very reasonably priced.

Fantastic location within easy walking distance of the main Ypres museums, Menin Gate, cathedral and old market square. Very easy to find and garage parking easy to find and worth the small additional charge. Friendly and informative host. Very happy to help with restaurant recommendations and what to visit.
Fabulous location right in market square. Very accommodating staff-had breakfast ready for us 1/2 hour early to accommodate our early train time. Great breakfast. Lift to upper floors made it easy to transport luggage. Walkable to train station but good taxi service also available.

We loved our stay in this beautiful, comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood in Ieper! We appreciated Paul’s warm welcome as well! It’s in a fantastic location-easy route to the square and Menin Gate and easy access to roads leading out of the City!
Good continental breakfast with the hotel just off the market square in a central location, the rooms are of a good size with a comfortable bed and easy access and cleaned to a high standard, I would recommend this hotel to family and friends.
Location is right around the corner from Menin Gate and the Cloth Hall - 2-3 minute walk to either. Definitely one of the nicer Novotel options. Friendly, helpful staff.
The hotel grounds has a WW1 trench and bunker which can be visited. Also the inside of the hotel has several war pieces exposed that were found by the hotel owners.
The hotel is situated on a retail park. no issues because it's only a 10 minute walk to town and/or the hotel can arrange a taxi which is a around 10 euro
Simple "English" breakfast was adequate, single room bed was a little narrow for an adult, but manageable, location near the town centre is excellent.
Great breakfast buffet. Had a room with beautiful view over the Lakenhal and Market square. Affordable parking in front of hotel or on the market square.
Clean friendly hotel and only just round the corner (25yards) from the market square
A great hotel and a two minute walk to the centre of Ypres.

As ever, our stay at Cocoon was a delight. We love Ieper and Cocoon is the perfect place to stay if you visit. Sofie is the best host you could ever wish for, with a genuine warmth and wonderful sense of humour. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable, and the breakfasts are excellent, with lovely eggs and bacon to complement a range of other items on offer. The terrace is a welcome addition, especially if the weather is hot, as it was for us. Wonderful to be back in Ieper - it has been too long!
