It's a beautiful city with an outstanding museum - In Flanders Fields. We went to 3 pubs (bars), all of which were excellent and very friendly Perhaps not the cheapest city, but certainly one of the best and definitely worth it.
Perfect base to explore WW1 history from and enjoy Flanders in general. The roads are so easy in that part of Belgium. Ypres is a quaint city, enjoyable restaurants and pubs. Can't beat Belgian beers.
I think most people will come here for the war history of which there is much. Otherwise, there is old architecture to look at, or an array of shops, museum etc. There is a train station so it can be used as a base for further travel, if you have a car then it's a good location for Lille, Brugges etc.
The Menen Gate Ceremony is always poignant and the large amount of people that attend are always respectful. The Museum in the square is interesting. I like the "quaintness" of the town. My primary reason to visit is for the cemetaries & for the history of the area. The Belgian Chcolate and Beer isn't bad either.
A beautiful town with many interesting museums and memorials to the Great War, not to .mention the Menin Gate Last Post ceremony which is carried out daily at 22.00 hrs. Very moving! (The arch has the names of 54000 combatants who have no known grave). There are also many places on the outskirts of Ypres Apart from the war memorial, horse Horse is a vibrant, busy town with many excellent restaurants and bars. It has fabulous market, too. Altogether, a place not to be missed! We loved it, and would return in a heartbeat!
Ypres is an historical town, full of atmosphere surrounding World War 1. It was completely rebuilt after the War finished and looks great. Of course, it's a bit of a tourist magnet but the prices don't seem to be too high for all that. Plenty of eating and drinking choices and places to visit, both in the town and outside in the battlefield areas. The highlight is the nightly "Last Post" ceremony, which never feels contrived but a genuine "thank you" for the sacrifice made by all the Allied soldiers (and civilians) during the Great War. I have been a number of times and Never seem to tire of it. It deserves its place as one of Belgium's prime commemorative places to visit.
Ieper
Communication with our hosts, in English via Whatsapp, was friendly, quick and easy. They provided a few fridge staples on arrival (including beer) which is a nice touch. The apartment is big, airy and very well equipped. There are two separate bedroom suites, both with a large walk-in shower and toilet. It has underfloor heating with separate controls for the beds and living areas, which is excellent. The location for Ypres is superb - less than 5 mins walk to the Menin Gate and Market Square.
Ieper
This hotel is outstanding, a traditional, comfortable hotel situated only minutes walking distance from the centre of Ypres. The owners were attentive, charming and so very helpful it felt as if we were old friends rather than guests at their outstanding establishment. The breakfast was superb and nothing was too much trouble. Both Claire and I said we would stay there again and in fact are booking for a stay later in the year when we travel in Europe.
Ieper
The location, breakfast, standard of cleanliness and quality of the breakfast were all top notch. Also, the parking was convenient (and safe). It was also private and quiet with its own independent entry each evening. In a beautiful area, it offered a very serene stay. B&B Ter Vesten was very conveniently located with respect to walking to the centre of town, including the Menin Gate and St Martin's. Would definitely recommend staying here!

This is in a very convenient and quiet location with free parking opposite yet a mere 5 minutes' walk from the centre of Ypres and 15 minutes' walk from the Menin Gate. Nice sized room with a good en-suite. The host was very friendly and helpful (tip: take his recommendations for places to eat). The breakfast was well presented, high quality and plentiful. We will definitely stay here in the future.
The hotel is in the perfect location for a visit to Ypres. Five minutes' walk from the Menin Gate and In Flanders Field Museum. The hotel itself is very comfortable and provided us with garage parking for our motorcycle, which was an added bonus. The hotel staff were fabulous, especially Daphne, who could not have been more welcoming and helpful.
Nice hotel in convenient location for exploring Ypres. Can walk to many bars, restaurants, sights, etc. Very friendly and helpful owners, gave good advice for sight-seeing. Simple breakfast due to current restrictions. Very nice and clean room with comfortable beds. On-street parking right outside hotel.
Absolutely amazing!! Every detail of the hotel and room was so well thought out. The breakfast was wonderful and we tried local cheeses, meats and jams. Staying here was not just a hotel room, it was an experience! Definitely the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in! (And we’ve traveled a lot).
The hotel is located near the big square and has a cheap outside parking (€2 per day) around the corner. It's clean and the staff is friendly. Breakfast is good but I think it's too expensive, try to book it together with the room to get it cheaper.
Booked for 1 night... Then stayed on for another 3 nights..then so happy with hotel, used as base, days out for another 5 nights... That good. 5***** Great hotel/location/price/breakfast
Super hotel with many clever touches to make it feel very comfortable, an example being automatic floor level night lights by the bed. Breakfast was plentiful and varied.
Perfectly situated on the Market Square and it was a public holiday so you were allowed to park anywhere for free - right outside the hotel!
Staff were very pleasant, hotel was clean and reasonable for the price. location in Ypres was superb
