Amazingly beautiful city! We really appreciate the fact that people of this area continue to hold the Last Post Ceremony nightly at the Menin Gate to honour those who lost their lives in the Ypres Salient during WW1.
Ypres is amazing!!! If you want to get away from Big City tourist traps and have a relaxing weekend in the beautiful Belgian countryside, this is the place to go. It’s a little warm at time and there are some bugs but not too bad, but it is so beautiful and so historic it needs to be visited.
Ypres is probably is probably preeminent as a place of commemoration of those killed in war, but it is an ancient town with a great history both of which aspects have been catered for by an outstanding tourist organisation. A day visit is not enough and one could very happily spend three days or more taking everything in.
Very centrally located, friendly, and accommodating Tourisme Bureau, even offering storage lockers for backpacks. Easy to access by train. The 'In Flanders Fields Museum' was exceptional in its realistic presentation of this horrific war, filled with historical facts, personal stories and reflections, and it didn't gloss over how manipulative war can be. The city itself is charming, friendly, and very people oriented, lots of runners, cyclists, and walkers, and outside relaxing places to sample Belgium's beers! The surrounding areas will be next trip.
Excellent food at the Resto De Ruffelaer De Stuersdtraat 11, 8900 Ypres -only 5 minutes from Market Place. Sweet couple opened on Thursday for our group of 10. Vegetarian choices. Great service Great accomodation at the Albion Hotel. Menin Gate Last Post is a moving experience. Walk along Ramoarts to the Lille Gate cemetary revommended. Flanders Fields Museum worth a visit!
This town was the center of a major salient into the German lines during WW1 and took a pounding. It has come back as a vital center of tourism for the area. Great museum In Flanders Fields in the main square of town. Stay awhile and understand the insanity of war! Visit the sites all around the area you will be enlightened!

The lovely couple that runs this bed and breakfast are so kind and thoughtful! We will definitely stay again when we are able to return to Belgium! The rooms are spotlessly clean, comfortable and a perfect size. One tip to remember, though: you must pay by cash and not credit card. The helpful hints on where to visit and the warm welcome were so appreciated! We loved meeting the other visitors at breakfast and the location was easy to find! Thank you for making us feel so welcome on our first visit to Belgium!

We stay at this hotel every year because of the whole feel of the place, quiet, peaceful and relaxing. We request the same room every year also. Absolutely spotless! The Manager (whose name unfortunately we do not know) is very pleasant, friendly and helpful. He greets us with a warm welcome each time we visit. The hotel is convenient for the centre, about a 10 min drive into Ypres.

Was able to part affordably right across from the hotel. It was clean and the staff was awesome! Had a delicious European breakfast included. Definitely recommend it to fellow travelers.

Ben is an amazing host. His relaxed nature makes your visit very enjoyable. There are several grocery stores in the area and the kitchen is well equipped. The unit is easy to find and is centrally located to many of the notable WW1 sites and some WW2 sites as well.
