All house-museums are beautiful and quite informative with boards explaining what the visitor is looking at both at Bulgarian and English. For lunch and dining, I'd recommend Galeria Restaurant and their Oasis dessert (strained yogurt with blueberry jam) is a must! On the other hand, Diado Liben Restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere inside but not as tasty. Bring or rent a bike because Koprivshtitsa is the perfect city to ride one for a bit. Don't skip on the horse riding either - there are some breathtaking routes!
A small an quiet town-museum/reservation, in the style of Bulgarian revival from the 19th century, the place where the April 1876 Rebellion started. The houses of famous rebellion leaders and famous Bulgarian poets are located there. The Town is a place with unique cultural and architectural atmosphere. In the same time it is small, easy to walk around and there are (still) not floods of tourists to make your stay uncomfortable. There are many traditional style restaurants serving traditional Bulgarian dishes, which are quite delicious, and cafes. I'd recommend 1 opposite to Oslekova house, where you can taste home-made pancakes with homemade jams. Mostly everywhere the staff is very polite and cooperative. The town is surrounded by forests so there are options for people who like walking in the nature.
One of the most remarkable examples of Bulgarian Ottoman era architecture, atmospheric and beautiful. Packed with museums and monuments of history, architecture and ethnography. One of the wealthiest in its time, the town was the scene of famous episodes of Bulgarians' national liberation struggle of the 1870s, and home of some to prominent revolutionaries, poets and other public figures of the era. Slightly damaged by commercialisation and modernisation, but still quite enjoyable. Do not miss the massive Folklor Festival. And plan a day-long hike in the beautiful mountains around.
It is great even in the winter, but spring and summer would have been a better time to visit - the old stone streets and stairs could be tricky to negotiate in slippery conditions by more fragile travellers.
We were lucky with the great weather for a December walk. The town is full of well preserved colorful and historical houses. There are lots of museums, a church, and little shops worth visiting. It's easy getting around by foot but do wear comfy shoes as the roads are all cobble stones. For spring & summer time, there are numerous trails for hiking and walking around. The food was great & the locals very welcoming. Highly recommend Koprivshtitsa!
Beautiful town with lovely buildings, cobbled streets and good cafes, restaurants and bars. Beautiful setting. Several of the historic houses are open to the public for a small charge - you can buy a combined ticket and follow a trail.
