While this is in Rio State it is 2 hours west from the City Centre.
This didn't bother us as we have visited Central Rio (Copacabana, Cristo Redentor, Ipanema, Barra da Tijuca, Sugarloaf etc etc) several times and weren't too fussed about going into town. We have also visited Buzios to the East of Rio Centre.
The great thing about this location, apart from the lovely grounds etc is that it is really close to Ilha Grande which is just wonderful.
Paraty is also in the general region and it a well preserved colonial city with beaches etc.
So all in all this region is a good choice for families and those that prefer to see a quieter, more chilled side of Rio state. Kids will absolutely love the safari park and pools etc
if you're after the samba, charrascarrias (unlimited steak restaurants) and night-life this is not the place.
If you want incredible nature, history, boat rides and to be lulled to sleep by waves under incredible starry skies instead of samba practice then come here!
