I was there in slow season, so it was nice to see what regular life in Hopkins looks like, but the downside (as a solo traveler) was that I couldn't book a snorkeling trip, because no one was going out. It seems to be a nice safe little town, and I like the beaches there better than those of Placencia, for example. However, we ran into unexpected difficulty finding a place to have meals. The food and people are so nice!
The food and people are so nice! Queen beans was amazing for breakfast, Katz coffee for coffee and waffles. JJ’s was our favorite spot for lunch and dinner: good food and prices. Hopkins is a linear village maybe 7 miles long paralleling the sea. There are some high end resorts but local guest rooms predominate. Residents never failed to assist us in finding taxis, food stores or support services. The food was excellent whether it was consumed in a resturant, local bar or kitchen hut. The place looks very cute, there's a really good kitchen and always someone in reception. The location is very convenient, right by the main roads and the beach. A very clean part of the beach too. The dorm beds are spacious and with al the little conveniences like a bedlamp, locker, little shelf and curtains. I read bad things about the mattresses, but to be honest mine wasn't that bad.
