Very impressive that a 21 year old built and ran the cottage. The bed slept good and we enjoyed him having coffee for us. His mother came to lock the gate to keep our car safe and we enjoyed talking with her. I hate we could not see her garden.
Lunenberg, of course, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but there's almost nothing to see here. The downtown is a single street a few blocks long with a couple of mostly-empty side streets. One picture, and you are ready to move on.
Beautiful place. A must see destination. We only had one night and should have stayed longer. Lots of places to see. Lots of places to eat but it’s busy with tourists. We went a little off the beaten track away from the sea front and found some less busy eateries.
The most interesting item was the Fisheries Museum. Most of the restaurant served fried foods but we ate at The Lincoln Street Food Store which was very good. We found that the restaurants were expensive for the type of food they offered. To get around in Lunenburg was fairly easy, there are a lot of hills. I think that if we made another trip to Lunenburg we would try to get into the Art Galleries, most were closed when we were there. We would avoid most of the restaurants and try to find one that didn't serve only fried foods.
Loved this town! Seeing and walking aboard the Bluenose II was great. Took the haunted tour - highly recommend. Great shopping for souvenirs but also for local artist's work. Hope to visit again!
Our visit to Lunenbur greatg was at the end of an 11 day tour of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. We definitely saved the best for last. Would have liked to have had one more day in Lunenburg. All of the restaurants were great. we ate at the Half Shell Oysters, The South Shore Fish Shack and the Smoke Pitt BBQ. Just wanderin up and down the dock side and through town looking at all the different houses was entertaining.
Lunenburg, and our first trip to Canada was wonderful. As mentioned before, if you have seen the Sinner 4, which was set in Maine, (as was Locke and Key, the ice cream parlor is here) it was filmed here and you can easily find all the locations, most right in town. It was a beautiful walk each day past the beautiful multi-colored houses to the sweetest downtown ever. There are many great restaurants, several coffee shops, a gym, with a spa (infrared sauna prices way less than u.s.), many churches, great waterfront, museum and the people were so friendly. I would definitely recommend Lunenburg. You can also spend a day in Halifax which is about an hour away.
