A young man at the front desk was very helpful in directing us toward art in the city. The room also came with a flotation device for swimming in the river and tickets for discounted public transport.

Special remark to the automatic curtain which avoid the direct sunlight exposure when we wake up around noon. Exceptional and attentive services. Switzerland Through the Ages
At the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, Basel is an eclectic mix of historic and modern, tranquil and vibrant, with Swiss cleanliness and efficiency thrown in for good measure.
Augusta Raurica, on the outskirts, has a well-preserved Roman theater, while the Old Town is a museum of medieval buildings. The Renaissance Town Hall looks down on Marktplatz’s daily market, while the red sandstone and colorful tiles of the Münster were reconstructed in the 19th century. Bringing it right up to date are the modern creations of city residents Herzog & De Meuron, designers of London’s Tate Modern.
When you’ve finished exploring this architectural heritage, there are still plenty of things to do in Basel. The city’s fine art museum is the world’s oldest art collection, and the zoo is the oldest and largest in Switzerland. Remember to bring plenty of Swiss francs for the shopping mile along Clarastrasse and Freiestrasse.

Public transport is excellent: the buses are always on time and very clean. Just make sure to carry some cash with you, as card payments (POS) are not available on buses. A walk along the Rhine riverfront is a must, offering a relaxing and scenic experience. We stayed in Basel for a week, using it as a transit point for traveling to other cities in the area: Colmar, Luzerne, and Freiburg. Basel itself has easily enough to see for three full days: interesting museums, beautiful architecture, cathedrals, dining, etc. If you stay for more than a day you get a Basil Pass which allows you to use public transit for free. Basel has a mix of old buildings, many museums (~40), lots of interesting streets and alleyways as well as a full range of good quality shops and restaurants. Very enjoyable to walk along the tree lined paths along the Rhine too, where you can find numerous drink stalls and openings to restaurants.
