We waited two years (because of the corona virus) for our vacation in this magical castle. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful sites in Switzerland. A real castle, gives you the feeling you are a real king. All hotel services are excellent, the staff is friendly and hospitable. The continental breakfast is served in the dining room with a view of the lake We had a pampering, luxurious, and very special vacation. Only good things can be said about this magical place. Although the price is not cheap, it is worth the money. This is one of the most beautiful castles in Europe and the best service we received in Switzerland

I usually don’t write reviews for hotels, but this experience truly deserves recognition. Yannick went above and beyond in every possible way. From the moment we arrived, he was exceptionally warm, kind, and friendly—so much so that it felt like he already knew us. His hospitality made us feel instantly at home. What stood out most was his patience and attentiveness. I had many questions throughout our stay, and he always responded with a smile and clear, thoughtful explanations. His professionalism and kindness made a real difference. I also want to mention how welcoming the owner was. I had previously stayed here last year without my mother, and the staff were already very friendly and accommodating. However, during this recent visit—with my mother, who wears a hijab—I was genuinely touched to find that they were even more welcoming and respectful. I had some initial concerns that we might feel out of place, but instead, we were treated with the utmost kindness and warmth. It was a beautiful and reassuring experience that made us feel truly seen and respected. I’m very grateful and would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone seeking a welcoming and thoughtful environment.

Lovely boutique hotel artistically designed with old village charm but contemporary touches. Quiet & located off a main road along the river, comfortable bedding, plush rooms with wonderful design details. All of the staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and accommodated. A big bonus is that the hotel is located next to a superb gym which allows a free pass on their first visit. We liked the stroll along the river from the train station and location is near plenty of cafes, historical sites and restaurants.

This was our second time staying with Hotel Emmental. My kids requested to stay here again. It's a wonderful, character filled vintage hotel/restaurant filled with Swiss charm. Castle view out the window! Scrumptious breakfast and attentive staff. Located in olde town. Highly recommended!!

Dinner on the lake, afternoon tea at Schloss Schadau, downtown area by the river. plenty of scenic side trips like the funicular up the Neisen and the Thunerseespiele (musical presented in an outdoor theater overlooking the lake) and plenty of other things to se and do

    Downtown Thun is absolutely beautiful! Mountain and lake views abound! Lots of wonderful shops and restaurants to choose from! There is also a castle located right in the downtown area! A very nice place to tour!

    Amazing alternative to Interlaken.

    Amazing alternative to Interlaken. I felt the hotels were more beautiful and a better value. Less tourism, so our visit was met with so much more enthusiasm vs. Interlaken, where lots of tourism seems to be met with annoyance by the locals. Loved Thun. So beautiful and peaceful. Just a short 30 min train ride to Interlaken.

    Thun is such a lovely town.

    Thun is such a lovely town. It’s smaller than the bigger city’s like Bern and Interlaken, it has a very relaxed vibe. No one is stressed. The old town and Castle are culturally very interesting and beautiful to walk around and explore. The waterfront restaurants are very lively in the summer with big terraces. Winter is also great with plenty of options for cheese dishes! It’s Switzerland! Beautiful little town and easy to get around on foot.

    Thun is the prettiest town with so much to do.

    Thun is the prettiest town with so much to do. We travelled by train from Zurich and it was a great location to travel to other places during our stay. Zermatt, Bern and Montreu. It is really clean and the people are very pleasant and helpful. The lake is lovely and there are boat trips you can take too. We had nice meals out but it is expensive for dining. There was very good shopping too

    Thun is a charming little city on the West end of the lake...

    Thun is a charming little city on the West end of the lake opposite Interlaken. In many ways it is more charming than Interlaken. We hiked up to the church and castle, walked through old town, ate dinner along the river, walk through the covered bridges and watched people surf below the bridge. We stayed two nights then headed for Zermatt.

    i like the location, where there are lots of interesting creators' stores on the street, and along the riverside, there are good restaurants and the old bridge and the view... the breakfast is good, especially the egg they prepared is quite good. (i mean the raw egg for boiling). i happen to stay there during the Thunfest, and the hotel informed in advance there would be loud music the whole night. i love music and ...when i open the window it's like i am sitting in the VIP room in a concert. that was fantastic!

    Excellent location near train station and walking distance to old town...and with thun card from hotel you get free travel during your stay! Breakfast was simple but filling They even prepared a breakfast box for me upon request bec I left very early. Room was compact but super comfortable and clean and cozy.
