Xitang is a great place! Apart from the well documented attractions, it is enhanced by visitors dressing up in local dress which looks great in the photos. I visited on a weekday when it wasn’t so busy, and got to see the art students painting the scenery - they were very good! There were loads of restaurants and lively bars, all enhanced by the lanterns illuminating the village. Transport by coach from Shanghai was easy and cheap, though it would have helped if the coach station showed boarding details in English. I preferred Xitang to Suzhou
