It's a mix of old & new & has it's own charm.
It's a mix of old & new & has it's own charm. A little on the touristy side. We stayed for three weeks but Cartagena could be seen comfortably in five to seven days. We didn't go to any of the islands or do any excursions. The humidity is very high. Dress appropriately. The weather changes rapidly, carry an umbrella. The vendors are everywhere & can be annoying at times, but people need to do what they need to do. Traffic is a problem at peak times. The people are so nice & always willing to help or answer questions. We always felt very safe. Next time we will venture to some of the more remote areas outside of the city.Guest review byZ - 8.0

The city is so beautiful in so many ways. There's a lot to see and do. There are some really good restaurants. The only (important) drawback is the number of street vendors anywhere you go. In some places it's ok, in others it's not nice. But it's part of the experience. If you're going to do some island hopping, compare prices and always ask confirmation of what is actually included in the package. A vibrant town that parties til late. Lots of shops and restaurants. 3 days was the right amount of time. Prices can be high in shops and restaurants as it’s a popular cruise stop. Everyone is hustling selling stuff inc raps! But just be sensible and you should enjoy your time. Firstly the people!
Firstly the people! They are very warm and welcome foreigners with open arms. The music was amazing! The city is vibrant and the coloured buildings are beautiful. Everything is so lively. Cartagena is a beautiful city filled with vibrant culture. I not once felt unsafe here. The food, the people, the music, everything was great. I had a memorable time in Cartagena and I can’t wait to go back. I Ubered everywhere, which is a very cheap option and I felt a bit safer doing this than taking a taxi as I don’t speak the language. I recommend doing one of the free waking tours around the city, you gain a wealth of knowledge on the history of the city as well as getting an idea of where to go. I did a coffee tasting experience and an ATV tour on terra bomba which was incredible, you can find these activities and more on “get your guide”. I recommend rooms on floor 2 or higher - note there are no elevators and some stairs are quite steep. We loved the hotel's proximity in the city. The rooftop breakfast was delicious.
