El Zainio is for the more adventurous traveller as Parque Tayrona requires some hiking to get to swimmable beaches. It’s very isolated, which was enjoyable for us, but may not be as enjoyable for others
It is located at the far end of the park in the middle of nowhere, workers are hostile, overcharging everything at least 10 times over the value of things, I paid the breakfast in advanced ( $20 ) and gave one piece of bread, one ugly egg and one disgusting coffee… I asked for water and they gave me a plastic bag water which is the cheapest and charged 10 times the cost of it. The beautiful areas of the park are so far away from this location. They never answer the phone after calling in advance many times. The pictures posted show nothing. It’s very bad.
I love the facilities, location, food, ambience, people, nature, cozy home feeling, things to do around, and the views and conversations with fellow travelers and the host family. I enjoyed it very much. It was just what I needed a balance of socializing and relaxing and not too much party. Wonderful place and experience! Thank you Will and Gabo!
Lots of very cheap accommodation right at the park's entrance. Dozens of buses passing through to Santa Marta. One large decent restaurant near park entrance. Come with plenty of money as no change place and most places only take cash... especially Tayrona Park. Try the large shops for changing a few dollars if desperate!
Yerba Buena is such an amazing place. Its unique, charming and beautiful. The staff is amazing, and the food is truly delicious. The private hut/room is an incredible experience. We absolutely loved it. We had the hut/room with the bathroom with the open roof and we loved it. Sleeping under the net was charming. I don't think the net was necessary, just for the experience. Its close to the main road, but totally relaxing and quiet. And the adventure of getting there by crossing the river or walking over the footbridge, made it even more unique and wonderful. Make sure you arrive during the day so that you can experience it in the light and in the dark. And then after dinner you can soak in the waterfall pool.
We liked the Location. The accommodation is very basic, good standard for backpacking. The beds are not very comfortable. Toilets are shared so don't expect cleanliness. If you come early we aware that you have to leave your bags unattended in the reception until you come back. Restaurant , only 1 option. No swimming pool. Unexpected power shortages. Extremely greasy food. Inconsiderate staff.
