Hotel in Puerto Jiménez
Cabinas Jimenez offers an outdoor pool and is located right by the beach of the beautiful Gulfo Dulce. We arrived early and because there was a room available we were able to check in early. John was very helpful, giving us a map and telling us all the great things to do in the area. We took the kayaks (which were free) around the bay, where we saw a dolphin. We also saw lots of scarlet macaws and hummingbirds in the nearby trees and watched a turtle bob up occasionally from the deck. The place also has bikes to use. It's really close to the town so everything is walkable. There's free coffee in the room. All the staff were lovely.

Situated in Puerto Jiménez, 700 metres from Playa Isidora, Kunken Boutique Hotel & Spa features accommodation with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a garden and a shared lounge. Amazing boutique hotel and spa, with just 7 villas, nestled at the edge of the jungle with its own private beach. Living in harmony with nature the rooms were very eco friendly with amazing outside showers, all round moquito nets instead of windows, ceiling fans, comfortable bed and a large verandah to enjoy the amazing views from. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and were waiting for us to arrrive with a welcome juice. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they really went the extra mile when my daughter had tonsilitus, driving us not just to the doctor and pharmacists and lending us the cash to pay for those as there was a glitch at the time with the cash points but also being very attentive thereafter, making hot drinks and salt water gargles. The food was great - amazing breakfasts, great lunches and delicious 3 course dinners. They do some great smoothies and cocktails and have a good wine list. We loved the fluffy pancakes at breakfast, the beef nachos at lunch and the mahi mahi for dinner, but there was plenty of choice and they were very willing to work off menu if needed to help with food allergies. The deep tissue massages were incredible and were a perfect treat after an early morning trip to explore the area. I did not get a chance to try the hot stone massage but wish I had! As was a dip in the spring fed swimming pool, which was a lovely place to take a break from the heat. The hotel is perfectly placed to explore the bay from, which is so quiet you almost feel like its your own private bay. We saw crocodiles, dolphins and endless birds exploring the nearby mangroves and the bay itself by boat, all organised by the hotel. They also organised separate bird walking and sloth spotting trips with very informative and well spoken guides. Or you can just stay at the hotel itself and let the wildlife come to you, with the howler monkeys being a particular favourite larking around in the trees as we hiked up the trails to the viewpoint.

The nature and exploration available from PJ as a takeoff point was amazing. Books tours early, or you may not secure a space, take himing boots and shorts and waterproof raingear just in case, and be prepared to rough it a little.
Anne, at reception, was friendly and welcoming and always addressed me by name, as if she'd known me forever! That impressed me! I loved the tropical decor, the ambiance and laid back vibe here. Loved meeting other guests in the common areas, from all over the world. Loved having the outdoor kitchen, and BBQ to cook in.
We did a daytrip to Corcovado Nationalpark. The Tour was organized by Osa Wild (a local organisation). The Guide was very good and we saw lots of exotic animals during the Day. Corcovado and Osa Peninsula are very wild and untamed in relation to some more touristic places in Costa Rica. Puerto Jiménez isn‘t that special, but it‘s a good place to start Tours to Corcovado.
When arriving by boat I was treated to a sight of numerous macaws beautiful Some of the hikes into the forest is high per Expensive if you are a lone traveller Try Bolita rain forest hostel in Doz basso situated in the forest ,you have to hike to get to it I have heard good reports
A quiet, unspoilt small harbour town. Los Delphines was a great place to eat, chill and watch the wildlife. Watch out for caimans! Jaguar is a lovely little gift shop selling delicious drinks and ice creams. Night kayaking to see the bioluminescence was fantastic.
A quaint beach side community, know for its proximity to excellent sportfishing and to Corcovado National Park. It is off the grid and extremely small, so dont expect a lot of amenities. The power occassionally goes out, but the general traveller can overlook the negatives for the gem the PJ really is. Multiple flights in and out of the tiny runway can get you in and out easily, with a 40 minute flight out of San Jose.
This location of this hotel is absolutely stunning, set against the backdrop of lush rainforest with views of the bay from your private veranda, Kunken Lodge feels like you're living in a little oasis. The fact that the property boasts a hummingbird garden, frog sanctuary, private beach and occasional spotting of whales and dolphins from the hotel means that this stay is truly unique. Make sure to take advantage of all the activities to make the most of your stay.
Puerto Jiménez
The grounds and Rancho were very beautiful - each private villa surrounded by jungle. Our villa was spacious and very clean. The Rancho, where one has breakfast. is situated on top of the hill with a spectacular view of the forest and Golfo Dulce. The staff (Ricardo , Marcela and Yendry and others) were exceedingly kind and helpful - even taking us on an outing to a nearby river for bathing. We would highly recommend this place if staying in the Puerto Jimenez area
Puerto Jiménez
How crazy to find such a cheap hostel during Easter Week in a place like Puerto Jimenez...! The Hostel was at least 15$ cheaper than any other available, and it was really great! David, the host, it's super chill, interested and great person. The kitchen is really nice, toilets are clean, and the rooms are big, big beds with curtains, fans. The people there were really nice aswell! Couldn't ask for better! Definitely would recommend and stay again
Puerto Jiménez
I stayed 3 nights in this fantastic location. The place is simply beautiful and a great place to relax. I was really well looked after by Lorena, Gustavo and Dalila who are all very charming and kind. The food was delicious and lots of it. I hope to go back one day. It is remote and the road is challenging but that is all part of the adventure. It was the cheapest and best place I stayed during my stay in Costa Rica.
Puerto Jiménez
Location, Puerto Jiménez is a very nice quite spot, mangroves, beach, town all within easy walking distance Chosa Manglar was a fabulous place with a private room set back in a mangrove garden, lots of wildlife just outside the door a good communal area and kitchen I extended my stay ii liked it so much. Would definitely recommend to backpackers and budget travellers. Will most certainly be back.
Puerto Jiménez
Off season prices are low for Costa Rica and what you get - clean room, a/c, private bath, wifi. The place is super beautiful, large nice communal area with kitchen. Staff is very nice and helpful, they care a lot of the place. They offer tours and tour guides, I would suggesting comparing prices with other places around town :)
Super helpful and friendly staff. Comfortable beds and airconditioned room. Free kayak rental to check out the nearby mangroves. Bikes were also available but we didn't use them... Very recommendable accommodation if you're in Puerto Jimenez. ;)
Wonderful hotel, clean large room with air conditioning, comfortable bed and excellent cooked breakfast included at the soda around the corner. Wifi was very strong, communal kitchen available and towels were soft! Great value in Puerto Jimenez
