Offering an indoor pool and a restaurant, Peace Lodge is located a 1-hour drive from San Jose in Vara Blanca. Free WiFi access is available in this lodge. Incredible property. Every detail was considered so the room felt like an extension of the outdoors. Even the bathroom had a waterfall in it...so relaxing and peaceful. Hummingbirds visited each morning on our balcony.
Featuring fully equipped bungalows with volcano views, Tiquicia Lodge is located adjacent to La Paz Waterfall and a 15-minute drive from Poas Volcano. The primary reason was to stay close to La Paz Waterfall Garden to see hummingbirds. But we found plenty of them flying right before our room! And there are a beautiful garden around the property, fantastic trail and a lot of birds! Moreover, the view on surrounding mountains is incredible. The last thing which hits us finally - super delicious dinner and breakfast at the local restaurant right upstairs. Unforgettable experience!
Located 14 miles from Carlos Alvarado Stadium, Hortensias Chalets Vara blanca offers a garden, a bar and accommodations with a patio and free WiFi. I’m a native and I have to say that this place is hands down the best hotel I’ve stayed at in this country. The accomodation, hot water, heater in every room, green areas, fair prices, 15 min away from Poás volcano, the great food and breath taking view makes this place my new favorite location! With fast free Wi-Fi in every room I didn’t mind the lack of TV. Don’t over think it, book this place!
With a bar and a garden, Poas Paradise provides free WiFi and is located in Poasito, 7 miles from Poas National Park. Some units include a patio and/or a balcony with garden or city views. This was our very first night in Costa Rica and it couldn't have been lovelier. Our room was facing Southwest with a view of the sun setting over the valley. The weather was cool, so the host lit a fire, and my wife an I had a romantic dinner by the fireplace. The hostess also helped us plan our next day, which made for a perfect start of our vacation.
Quinta Esencia features river views, free WiFi and free private parking, located in Alajuela, 10 miles from Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium. Everything is great. I love the dog whom took me around the waterfall. That experience worth more than anything else.
Located just outside the Poas Volcano National Park, El Churrasco Hotel y Restaurante offers a popular churrasco steak restaurant. The functional rooms and bungalows have free Wi-Fi and garden views. This is a family Is a family run business. I had a wonderful experience. I can go on and on about the great customer service.
The villas were adorable! We loved our short stay but the wifi would not let us let our families know we had arrived safely. If you plan to leave early to travel more, the check out time is 9 am- not 7am! The staff member who spoke English was very kind and accommodating!
We only stayed one night although we booked three nights. The place was in disrepair, and very depressing.. We did not receive our money back, but we were on vacation and did not want to feel like we could not sleep or take showers. We realized there was no talking to the manager as his only response was that we prebooked through bookings. If we had truthfully known what we were getting into we would not of booked. So hope this review helps others. He also insisted we wear a pink wrist band during our three day stay which was just silly. If he cannot keep track of the very few guests he has, he should not be in the hospitality business.
The volcano is closed at this time. There was nothing the lodge could do to change area conditions. I appreciated that plenty of warm fluffy blankets were provided as the nights are cool. There is a hummingbird walk & hummers visiting the feeders at the restaurant Windows. Take a wooden step trail done the mountain slope to a stream. Just a relaxing atmosphere.
If you are planning to visit Poas Volcano look for posts to see if it is open yet. Was closed when we went Mar 12, and had been for almost one year. We would have taken a different route if we had known this in advance.
What a beautiful town. It was our 6th trip to. Costa Rica and the first time I ever need a sweatshirt and legging on a trip. We went from 90 degree weather to 60's Is was a nice ending. The green everywhere all the waterfalls ,fruit stands, Vera Blanca really was beautiful.
we enjoy hiking tremendously and to do it in COOL weather a major plus. We come from a hot climate so we seek out cool mountains more than beaches . We travel a great deal (4 overseas trips this year) and the beauty of this area is as good as it gets Would love to return and do a more difficult raft excursion- the one we did was great and better than New Zealand. We also zip lined and as expected beautiful, only negative was our group was too large.

Personal attention - Ken (owner) spent some time with us and answered all the questions we had. Communication with host was exceptional - from booking to payment to assistance with check-in. Good location - just 30min from the airport with great views. Garden is definitely plus - very well maintained. Morning breakfast - with Costa Rican coffee and oranges from the garden was awesome!

Peaceful environment. Big room with a nice Poas volcano view (note that the volcano park is closed for security since April 2017, so you cannot visit the craters). Very good restaurant (the best in our Costa Rica trip). Beautiful common hotel areas (lounge, ...). Very kind staff. Good service.

A perfect hotel. It's relatively expensive, but it's worth it. Here you can see and understand all the delights of this country. Only here we could really communicate with toucans.
