The carnival time is one of the best times to enjoy Mindelo. Very colourful, lots of excitement and great atmosphere. You should try the local food, cachupa and the kamoka ice cream. The city is quite compact, and you can easily explore the entire city center in a day. The more rural areas on the outskirts are less attractive, but I didn’t feel unsafe there. There are plenty of great bars and restaurants with live music in the evenings. Le Metalo was my favorite—both the food at the restaurant and the street food were excellent. The Municipal Market was a lovely spot, offering a variety of local souvenirs along with some random Chinese goods. The boutiques were similar—featuring a mix of local products and many Chinese-made items. The architecture is a blend of beautifully renovated historical buildings, modern constructions, dilapidated houses, and industrial structures. The people were fantastic. I had no trouble asking for photos or advice. I am orginally from Mindelo so this is home away from home. My city is easily accessible by walking or car. People are friendly and the food is amazing. Always ready to provide required information about local points of interest. Apartment is relatively close to the centre of Mindelo, about 20mins walk. The local BCA bank is about 5mins walk, where you can exchange your currency to Escudos. The local post office is about 5-6 mins walk. There are local shops. Laginha Beach is about 25 - 30mins walk. The place is an island of paradise in Mindelo, with its elegant architecture, white walls and beautiful little garden in the common area.
